-   Exact same symptoms, but they only started after I had tried and failed to install Kaspersky. i.e had AVG installed, uninstalled it, tried and failed to installed Kaspersky 2009, then could not reinstall AVG-   jmonilaws

For installin gthe avg 8.0 check the following:
1. Latest Service Pack for your OS
2. Check that the local disk c: is having free space
3. See that you had min. 128MB RAM

i installed latest version of AVG8 but i can't connect to internet ,my system crashes forming blue screen .My os is vista ultimate sp1 Please help me

Managed to resolve the issue. If you are happy to edit the registry, and understand implications of getting it wrong, use regedit and find the key that is referred to in the install error message. Right click and review the permissions. You will probably find deny permissions for certain groups, that implicitly overide permissisons for your self or admin groups. Change the permisssions on the key to administrators full, system and power user groups to full. This solves the problem.

(explaination: It would appear that other installations or activities have made entries to this key, AND changed the permisssions, thus stopping further updates.)

my pc wont let me install the AVG.8 it atemptsto and then a message pops up sayin error files saved in ....
