Managed to resolve the issue. If you are happy to edit the registry, and understand implications of getting it wrong, use regedit and find the key that is referred to in the install error message. Right click and review the permissions. You will probably find deny permissions for certain groups, that implicitly overide permissisons for your self or admin groups. Change the permisssions on the key to administrators full, system and power user groups to full. This solves the problem.

(explaination: It would appear that other installations or activities have made entries to this key, AND changed the permisssions, thus stopping further updates.)

Unable to install AVG 8 free

Strippy had asked you a right question. You may be trying to install AVG when you have already one antivirus program running. OR you had once installed AVG sometimes in the past, but uninstallation was not properly done. Hence it is showing registry key error.

1. If you are running any anitvirus prog now, first uninstall it. Then restart the machine.

2. Now you try install AVG. it should install. if not, try the following

Go to system restore and create restore point for safety.

go to run and type regedit and then enter

Press cntrl + F for finding earlier registry keys of AVG. Try to find out all old registry keys amd delete them all.

Restart the machine. Its DONE.

Avg 8 removal problem....

hi iam sharu
The recommended procedure is a time consuming one. You must download the latest version of AVG from the website, and then run it.

1) Click on the following link and download AVG to your desktop

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0

2) Double-click on the downloaded file to run it
3) AVG will present you with three options to choose from. Choose the Uninstall option to completely uninstall AVG

Add/Remove Components - choose if you want to add/remove some components or reinstall the entire AVG program
Repair installation - this option repairs or reinstalls missing or damaged components of AVG
Uninstall - this option removes the AVG program from your PC

4) Once the uninstall has completed, restart your computer. You can then proceed to install another antivirus or install AVG again.

I have installed AVG 8 but I keep getting Messages saying I have no protection Firewall and Antivirus

It could be that the Windows security has not identified that you have installed AVG 8. Have you rebooted the computer to see if that helps? Generally, it does. I know that Windows security identifies AVG 8 because that is the antivirus product that I use and I have no problem.
