Question about Sony STR-DE885 Receiver
Make sure your audio input for TV/Sat is set to "Auto" If you have video passing to your TV from the receiver its a lot easire to navigate sony's GUI menu (main Menu) if not, run a basic video cable from the "monitor out" of the receiver to a video input on the TV. Then, using the sony remote press "menu" toggle thru the screens until you find "Audio" look for "input" then TV/Sat then set to "Auto"
I'm pulling this from memory, so if you still have an issue, please post a reply and I'll pull the manual and help you further.

SOURCE: no video
I am not sure if you have gone into the Receivers Menu or not? If you have NOT! Then please try this: Go into the Receivers Menu (If you do not see the MENU on the TV you can hook up a Composite (Yellow) Cable from the Receivers Monitor Out (Yellow) and select the Input on the TV that you plug into) Look in the Menu for Inputs or In/Out Config. or Video Setup. Look for the Input that you are using for that Device. Change the Video setting to HDMI. I also recommend doing this for you Audio as well. Find the Audio Inputs and MATCH each Input to there DEVICE and CABLE (Connection) Being used. Also check in the Receiver Menu for UPSCALE or UPSCALER. Turn this on or off to see if your TV is Compatible! Hope This Helps! P.S. Check the Manual for Upscaling Capabilities NOT all Receivers upscale and route the SAME!

Semantics maybe, but sources are INputs. OUTputs are speakers, audio to other devices.
A DVD is always an INPUT.
So what's different? IOW, how are the DVD and Projector (Really? It uses a video OUTput) connected for audio? Have you looked at the manuals? Digital sources must be assigned, for example.
