Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

I see that you have advised on the dishwasher soap residue problem in the past. I was just wondering if you have learned anything new since the last time you posted. I have this dw residue problem, too. I DON"T seem to have it with the gel packs. But my 3-level Kenmore did the job great up until about 6 months ago. Then, I bought a different dw soap and had trouble. So I changed brands. It STILL left a residue. SO bad that I phoned the company. They were completely noncommittal about the reasons. Told me all these things to do to DETERMINE if it WAS the soap (which I had already done), and left me hanging. Next, I got an email that let me print out a $5.00 coupon for MORE of their soap that was the problem in the first place! This led my husband to believe that possibly some government regulation had forced a change in the soap formula. (He is a certified htg. ref. & a/c guy and also just under an engineer level with Shell--can fix just about anything.) But we are stumped and hoping that maybe you know more now. Thanks for any and all help!

After a complete cycle now have a milky residue

The milky residue on the glasses is not a residue at all: it is irreversible damage to the glass and is caused by a myriad of microscopic cracks in the glass surface combined with surface etching. Vinegar only works if there's a limescale deposit caused by using too little salt (no salt at all, or the salt dispenser set too low, or just not adding supplementary salt in a hard water area when using dishwasher powders with an in-built salt function)

It can happen to most glassware, but will happen very quickly to lead crystal which is why every single dishwasher I've ever sold or rented out says not to put them in the dishwasher. So called "glass protection" dishwasher powders are a marketing gimmick; all they do is to try and eliminate chlorides from the mix and boost the salt content, but they won't actually stop the damage completely.

Similarly, most advise against putting silverware in the dishwasher. By silverware I specifically mean anything made of silver, plated with silver or electroplated nickel silver (EPNS). Stainless steel is fine though. You might like to read this short article on the subject.

Soap does not disolve and residue left on all

The problem is hard water. Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com. They have a new product out that solves this problem once and for all. It filters the water entering your dishwasher and removes the hard minerals that cause these spots. Very affordable and guaranteed to leave your dishes looking amazing every time.

Residue and food particles left on dishes in upper rack.

Check the inlet screen at the bottom of the dishwasher that could impede the flow.

Otherwise the pump may be to blame.

Putting my fdw60 aquarius dishwasher back together

check that the place where u put the salt in is screwed in tightley, then, i find giving the dishes a hand wash and they come up clean , ti will work fine, because if you notic, take a glass with white powdery residue out of the dishwasher and rinse it under water, and the residue is still there, so they need a good scrub and after that , they can be washed as normal!
