Hello my name is Heath it will be my pleasure to assist you. If you have gas to the furnace and the pilot will not light with the button on the gas valve held down then the pilot orifice is plugged or the gas valve is bad.

Can't get any gas to polit light

Are you getting gas to gas valve? if so then pull supply gas line off the gas valve and look in the end of the gas valve there is a screen in it that catches trash make sure its not stopped up. If clear then pull the pilot supply tube from the valve and press knob if you don't get gas out of valve pilot supply hole the replace valve. if gas is coming out of pilot supply hole the check pilot supply tube some times when heater sets up over summer tube stops up at end of tube has a small orifice you will need to open the hole up with a sewing neddle.

When the heat cycle calls for gas there is no ignition is my gas valve bad?

I don't know what kind of furnace you have. But most furnaces have some sort of pilot first than after it is proven than the main gas will come on. Either a standing Pilot with a thermocouple. A hot surface ignition or Spark ignition with a flame sensor. Or a direct fire system where hot surface or spark ignitor start first than all the burners send a 1 sec blast of gas which is proven by the flame sensor if it proves the gas valve stays on.....
In what you have said you have 24 volts to the gas valve and it has not lite. then does the gas valve have a pilot tube???Does it have a thermocouple?? Do you smell gas?? If you don't smell gas then the main part of the valve has not opened. The Pilot valve has to open first and prove before the main gas will come on. I hope this helps. If you still need help repost with the name and model # of the furnace.

How to light pilot

Assuming it is not an electric spark, but is really the type with a real pilot light:
Move the gas control on the water heater to PILOT
Push the valve handle on the gas controller down to start the gas flowing to the pilot.
Using a match, light the gas at the pilot while holding the gas controller valve handle down.
Keep the gas valve handle depressed for 30 seconds after lighting.
Release the gas controller vale handle - the pilot should remain lit. If not, repeat lighting one more time
Once the pilot remains lit, turn the gas controller valve to On - this should cause the main flame to come on.

NOTE: DO NOT LIGHT A MATCH IF YOU SMELL A HEAVY CONCENTRATION OF GAS - CALL A SERVICEMAN AND VACATE THE AREA

I have a Rheem RGDA-100A-AR gas furnace, and I believe the pilot light is out and needs to be re-lit, but I'm not sure where it is. Any ideas where it might be or what it might look like? And do I have...

Hello and thanks for inquiring. Take the front covers off the inside unit. This is where you will find the Gas Valve. Next locate the pilot assembly. This can be done by following the thermocouple from the gas valve to the end where you will see a little v shaped piece. This is where the gas will come out. Turn the Gas Valve selector to PILOT. Depress the gas valve and use a match to light the pilot. Hold the valve down for 30 seconds. Then let up and to the gas valve to the ON position. The unit will come on and light and when the bonnet temperature reaches 180 degrees the fan will kick on. Hope this helps you.

How do I change the termocouple on an older Dayton furnace

Locate the gas valve, there will be three lines coming off the bottom and going into the burner compartment. The center one is the largest and is the main gas feed to burner. The one on right is usually silver and about 1/4 inch in diameter. It is the pilot feed line. The third is usually coppercolored ,this is the line for the thermocouple. You can trace thermocouple line down into burner comparment. The tip of the thermoucople usually slips into a friction fit mounted right in front of pilot burner.Slip old thermocouple out of holder and unscrew fitting from the bottom of gas valve. Install new thermocouple into pilot burner assembly, make sure thermocouple is fully seated and in direct line of pilot flame. screw fitting into bottom of gas valve. Set gas valve control to pilot, depress pilot button and light pilot. Hold pilot button down for about 2 mins.Tip of thermocouple should be cherry red. If it'snot try to reposition so thermocouple is more covered by pilot flame. Relese pilot button and if pilot stays on rotate gas valve control to on.Hope this helps you. Yhanks

Installed new gas valve. Wired according to instructions with valve. Shows 3 wires coming from igniter to gas valve. 2 tabs on valve above pilot. Burners won't come on.

I need more info to help you out. You need to check if there is anything else wrong with the furnace. But a for the gas valve goes you nee to check if your geting 24 volts to the gas valve. The pilot sensor might be bad. What kind of gas valve do you have. are the three wires coming back to gas valve Yellow, White, and Green. If they are most likly its the flame sensor not the gas valve.

check to make sure your pilot orfice is not clogged it will be located at the end of the small tube coming from your gas control valve if its not then while you are trying to light the pilot tap the side of the gas valve (sometims somewhat hard) if it then lights you know you have a bad gas valve

Pilot light has no gas coming out, verified gas going into gas valve, but no gas coming out when pilot light button depressed.

Pilot orifice may be clogged. Remove pilot tube and orifice. Blow out orifice with compressed air only and reassemble. Also, control valve may be bad.

the pilot light is operated off a millivolt generator. that is the small tube directly in the pilot flame. its purpose is to generate a small dc current which is connected to the pilot valve inside the main valve. setting the control to pilot opens just the pilot gas supply. when operating normally the millivolt generator keeps a small electromagnet pulled in that keeps the pilot gas supply open. if it don't work the pilot gas supply valve closes. replace the thermocouple.
