I just bought a new HP desktop with Vista 64-bit. I plugged in the OWC Mercury Elite Pro external hard drive and the computer does not see it at all. I tried to manually add it, but I am unable to. I do not want to reformat this disk since it holds alot of data that I cannot afford to lose.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am going to need more information before I can help. Are you trying to install Windows 2000? Are you trying to install internal hardware, external hardware? What type of hardware is it? This information is needed for me to solve your problem.

I recently had a hard drive failure on my HP Pavilion a610n. I decided to replace the IDE drive with an SATA drive. However, the computer will not recognize the SATA drive. I have tried plugging the SATA...

I'm not sure you can insert your OS disk to istall or not, so the solution depends on your being able to do so. It seems to me there's a strong possibility that the BIOS cannot see the drive because that software had basic drivers to recognise the IDE Drive the computer came with.

So, you have to locate the SATA Driver which can be loaded during installation of the OS from either a boot cd or boot floppy. WIndows Setup gives you a chance at the beginning of setup if you watch the progress bar below to press F6 if you need to load a "Third Party or RAID driver" A little further along the setup will stop and prompt you for this driver and you'll need it ready with the exterior CD drive or floppy drive attached with the media in it to load.

It's quite possible this is what you're going to have to do. If this isn't the solution, please don't trash my rating with a thumbs down click. I'm trying to help without complete info.

Best Wishes

STOP C0000221 erro de hardware desconhecido systemroot system32 ntdll.dll

You may receive one of the following stop error messages while working on your Windows XP computer.
STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error
Path\File_nameSTOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error
C:\Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll (or another specific file or driver)
STOP: 0xC0000221 STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH
Path\File_name
Note: The error message may be discussed in many different formats-blue screen or message box. It depends on when the corrupt file was detected.
Similarly, you may receive the following STOP messages when a critical system file fails to load on your Windows NT and Windows 2000 computer.
STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error
<path>\<file_name>STOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error
c:\winnt\system32\ntdll.dll
Note: Some other drive may also be given in the message.
On Windows 2000 the following error message may display:
STOP: 0xC0000221 STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH
<path>\<file_name>
You usually face this problem when an incorrect driver for one or more hardware is installed on your system. For instance, the error messages described above are displayed when you install a millions of instructions per second (MIPS) driver on a x86 system.
Cause of the Error
This error occurs if the file given in the error message is damaged.
Your Windows XP operating system checks the following files for integrity during system startup:
  • All driver files, excluding the files that loaded using the system loader to start your system .
  • All DLL (Dynamic Link Libraries) on the system. These include, Graphics Driver Interface (GDI), User, Ntdll, Crtdll, Shell, Kernel and several other DLL files on the system.
  • On Windows NT and 2000 computers, all DLLs loaded in the Window server address space are also checked.
The problem may also occur if an Iomega Zip drive is connected to the same cable as your hard disk drive.
Resolution Method
You can resolve this issue by removing the corrupt driver from your computer and then reinstalling a fresh and healthy copy of the driver. You may need to use the Device Manager utility to remove the driver. It is recommended that you clean your registry with the help of a reliable tool, such as RegGenie to ensure that all entries related to the uninstalled driver are removed from the system. After you have completely removed the corrupt driver, restart your system and install a fresh copy of the driver on the system.
If this step does not resolve the problem, you may have to reinstall Windows XP.
It is recommended that you regularly clean your registry with the help of a registry cleaner tool and perform antivirus and antispyware scan using tools, such as Antivirus Plus and StopZilla to prevent such errors from occurring on your system.

GOOD LUCK :-)

I'm putting cds into the drive but they won't run and when I go to 'My Computer' it's not showing the drive

Is it a new drive? Is the latest driver loaded for it? are the cables in correctly? are the jumpers set correctly? Is it recognized in the BIOS? If you answered YES to all but not even recognized in the BIOS then its the ribbon cable or the unit itself

Computer monitor becomes distorted after boot up.

Hi,

Download and install the correct driver for the monito as well as the deiver for your video card, if the video is onboard, you may need the motherboard and AGP driver as well.
You will probably need to boot in Safemode to do this.
Good Luck.

Printer Drive Problem

Since the printer is working the drivers are installed correctly. The drivers help the computer recognize and operate your printer. The error that you are recieving is from the program called MFL Pro Suite. If you still have the CD you can reinstall the software and this error should go away. If you found solution this helpful please rate it.

I HAVE JUST PURCHASED A NEW COMPUTER , WHICH DOES NOT HAVE THE OPERATING SOFTWARE INSTALLED. THE QUESTION IS: THE MANUAL THAT CAME WITH THE UNIT SAYS TO FIRST RUN THE CD THAT CAME WITH THE UNIT THAT WILL...

If you do not have the original disks that came with the computer, yes load Windows 2000 Pro.

You will then need to download drivers for any that are not found by the OS.

Hope this helps!
