Question about GE Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

My oven is heating at uneven temperatures. I simply cannot get choclate chip cookies to do anything more than come out flat no matter what I do to the recipe. The double ovens are about 10 years old. Is such a thing as recalicbrating? Appreciatively, Glory Reuter

Why does our GE jt910 oven not heat consistently when baking cookies. the first batch is ok but second batch is always over done?

Buy a small oven thermometer and check the temperature of the heating oven over time. It may not explain it, but you can better adjust the dialed temperature to match the desired temperature.

One must preheat the oven to the desired baking temperature. If the oven is turned on and the food immediately put in to bake, it will take longer to bake the first batch than the second and subsequent batches, because the oven need a few minutes to heat up.

In other words, the oven isn't at 350 degrees the instant you turn it on. It takes about 15 minutes for the oven to reach 350 degrees. I hope this helps.

Kenmore oven take a long time to heat up, but bakes just fine once it reaches temperature. Is there anything I can do to speed up the heating process?

Start earlier?
>> check all elements for current,
check seals
check temperature calibration (allowed to be 15% ie 180 can be 153 or 207 Celsius!) no wonder Margs' scones cook faster at her house :-)

Oven with convection - when baking cookies, cakes, etc they aren't getting done. Bottom and middle is soggy. Both coils look to be heating, convection fan is working.

Set the temperature one position higher. Convection ovens have a more even heat spread so if you used to bake at the top of your old oven it will now be slightly lower temperature

Simpson Evolution 904 wall oven cooks very unevenly

I agree, the heating is very uneven in our oven, however, when I calibrated the temperature with a thermocouple, I discovered that the temperature gauge was 25C too hot! That is, if I set the oven temperature gauge to 155C, it was actually 180C inside the oven! Taking this in to account, it is now much easier to cook things without them burning.

Uneven oven temperature

It is possible that the thermostat on your oven needs calibration. However, major errors in temperature may be the result of a bad heating element or a door that doesn't close or seal properly, etc. Confirm that the oven is in otherwise good operating condition before attempting calibration.
Most thermostats have a calibration screw located under the knob. Try pulling the knob off and look at the shaft. Some shafts have a small screw located in the center. Rotating this screw will change the trip point at which the thermostat will turn on and off. This is determined by the sensor located inside the oven itself. Some other schemes allow for the entire control to rotate with respect to the scale. You will need to identify the type used on your oven.

Let me know if this helps.

Oven bakes unevenly and burns food

When foods are burned, soggy, or baked unevenly, it generally means heat isn't being distributed evenly throughout the oven, its escaping out the door or the controls are out of adjustment. 1) Remove any aluminum foil from racks or the bottom of the oven. 2) Check the door gasket and, if necessary, have it replaced. 3) Be sure nothing is obstructing the vent. 4) Reposition the oven racks so baking pans aren't too close to the heat sources. 5) Check your baking pans. If they're dark, they may be burning your food. Reduce temperature by 25 degrees F when baking in dark metal or glass pans. 6) Recalibrate the controls.
