How to replace eureka model 4388 belt

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

Changing the belts in your unit is easier than you think. To do so, you will need a phillips head screwdriver. First, start by unplugging your vacuum as a safety measurement. Using the lever in the bottom of your unit, recline your upright until it lays flat. Unscrew all 4 screws from the floor base cover and remove the cover to expose the roller brush and belts of your unit.

Carefully, remove the roller brush by using your hands, make sure to hold on to the side of the roller brush that has the belt so it does not pop out and hit you. Once the roller brush is removed, gently take the belt off the metal spool, and replace with the new belt.

We have a very helpful tutorial in our webpage that can assist you in replacing the belts on your unit:

Eureka TRUE HEPA Whirlwind Bagless same problem seems...roller just stopped...took everything apart and turned it on just in time to see belt melt...I was able to get the end caps off both sides at first...

If you are able to remove one end cap, the brush roller shaft can be removed and the other bearing is exposed for examination and removal of the hair that probably is clogging it. After cleaning and reassembly the brush roller should rotate freely. Clean any burned belt residue from the motor shaft and install a new Eureka belt.

Trying to change the belt

things you will need Vacuum belt
  • Screwdriver
  1. Locate and purchase the correct belt for your Eureka vacuum cleaner from the local grocery or department store. Vacuum belts come in different sizes according to your model of vacuum. Check your owner's manual or the vacuum itself for your model number.

  2. Turn your vacuum cleaner over so that the bottom of the unit is facing you. Remove the cover plate from the bottom by undoing the screws that are holding it in place with a screwdriver.

  3. Locate the belt pulley rod near the back of the vacuum base coming out of the motor. With the vacuum cleaner base turned upside down and facing you, the motor and pulley rod should be up near the top of the base.

  4. Slide the vacuum brush roller out of the slots at the bottom of the vacuum base and remove the old belt from the brush roller and pulley rod. With the brush roller off of the unit, clean the brush by removing any strings or cords wrapped around the tube.

  5. Install the new belt by looping it over the belt pulley rod next to the motor and then looping around the end of the brush roller in the belt slot. Hold the brush roller and pull back on it to tighten the belt while you slide the roller back into the slots on the vacuum base.

  6. Replace the base cover plate by snapping it back into place and securing it with screws. Turn vacuum back upright and turn it on to test the belt and verify the unit is working

Lost manual on vacum need to replace belt

Remove the bottom cover of the sweeper head, then remove the brush roller along with the belt if still there. Clean the brush end-bearings--the roller ends and the interior of the bushings. Then oil the bearings lightly with 3-1 oil or similar. Place the new belt over the roller and the motor shaft adding any required belt twist (diagram on the casting), then seat the roller and bearings as a unit. Replace the cover and test the roller for running. Hope this helps!

How to change belt on eureka whirlwind; what tool do I need

You will first need to remove the hood to gain access to the belt and brush roller. Turn the machine upside down, place the handle on the floor and the base on a counter. You will find several screws that hold on the hood, remove them. Turn the machine back to the upright position and remove the hood. On the right hand side,if your looking the front you will find where the belt goes. At the back you will find a silver shaft sticking out, put the new belt on there first. Then put the brush roller through the belt so it is in the carved out section of the brush roller. Then grab the brush roller by each end and stretch the belt till the brush roller fits back into the base. Turn the brush roller 3 compleat turns backwards and 3 forward to seat the belt in the proper position.
Then put back on the hood.

Belt tensioner overheated and doesn't keep belt tight enough

Looking at the owner manual, there is no tensioner assembly.
If the motor is fixed in place and not loose, then you either have the wrong belt, or the brush roller is not properly installed, or the brush roller is worn out where the belt goes around the brush roller.

I have a Eureka Bravo! 7.0 vaccum cleaner, how do I change the belt

Turn the vac over so the brush is facing up.. There is a cover plate that surrounds the brush.. Take the screws out and remove the cover plate.. Pull up on the side of the brush that the belt is on.. Replace the belt.. The belt goes around the metal shaft and the brush.. Push the brush back in place.. It might be a bit tough going in because the belt causes some tension.. Put the cover plate and screws back in..

Good luck ! Please don’t forget to rate well ;o)

I want to replace the belt on an upright eureka vacuum model 4481, any ideas?

I just replaced the belt on my 4481. Very simple. Be sure unit is unplugged. Unlock handle and let it lay down. Remove two screws on plastic cover. I purchased my belt at target for 2.54. Part number anywhere is Eureka U. Remove the roller brush. Loop belt around drive motor first and then around roller brush inserting the roller back into place belt side first. Replace cover and your ready to go. 10 min fix.

No manual

Take the hood off of the unit, and remove the brush roller and belt. Wrap the new belt around the shaft of the motor and slide the brush roller inside the loop of the belt. Use the brush roller as leverage to stretch the belt out and slide the brush roller back into the roller housing. Once you have it installed correctly, make sure the roller and belt are free, by spinning it by hand. If that belt is pinched it will just burn it up when you turn the unit on.

Good luck
