Question about Netopia 2200 Series (2246N-VGX) Router (2246NVGX)

Open Question

I just switched back to DSL.. I'm using the Netopia 2210. I was able to get it working and use the internet for a couple hours. I then unplugged it to set it up with our netgear router and was not able to get a dsl sync anymore. I even tried unplugging the netgear and hooking it back up on it's own and it wont sync. When I plug it in the power, ethernet, & dsl light come on, then it resets like 3 times and finally stops with only the power and ethernet light on. Any suggestions on what I might have done to this thing?

SOURCE: setting up linksys wireless router with motorola 2210 dsl modem

One thing that isn't mentioned anywhere is the modem has to be in bridge mode. I was told this by a Linksys tech after doing all that was documented in the references article. I contacted my internet provider and they told me how to set the modem to bridge mode. This corrected the PPPoE error.

SOURCE: Can't connect Netgear router with ATT DSL

After you hook everything up the first thing you want to do is power cycle everything. So unplug the power cord on the router and the modem, Then plug the modem back in first and once the lights all come back on then plug in your router and once those lights come up i would reboot your PC and see it that helps.

SOURCE: Netopia 3347 wireless Router will not work at all.

your router has a volt/amperage ranting ok. check the down side of the router to behold this rating. Something like 12V direct 0.5A. This means you should test and determine your router's adapter power output. If your voltage reading falls within this range: 11 - 14V then its ok, otherwise try another. I cannot overrule the logic board as a possible problem if your adapter gives out the right voltage. In this case, you should contact the vendor. Good luck

If you have ATT DSL they should be supplying the DSl Modem. Unfortunately they supply Motorola 2210's, which systematically burn out due to overheating. The symptom is that the DSL blinnks, but the other lights to the right of that will not come on. That means it is sending requests to the network for service, but the receiving section is unable to receive the reply.

I am on my 3rd 2210 in 3 months. ATT do replace them free, but they really need to switch to a different manufacturer.

Netopia 3347 moved to a different location/tel number

If you got the netopia in anyone of the 13 states that ATT controls, then that netopia will work in any other state, not just the phone number it was attached to. We are implementing technology now that it will be phone specific, but most people dont have that installed yet.

All you have to do is reset the netopia, open a browser, type 192.168.1.254 and set it up with the new username and password you created when you got your new DSL service.

Moving internet to another room

As long as you have an active DSL connection in the new room, yes you should be fine. All settings are saved in the router's flash memory and won't be lost by disconnecting the power. Make careful note of where everything is plugged in (a digital photo is great!) and in the worst case, you can move it all back until you figure out what is wrong.

Internet light is red

If you haven't done so already I would turn the netopia router off and back on again at least once. If that doesn't solve the problem it's probably a sync issue with your providers equipment. I'm assuming you're using ATT because of the Netopia router, but generally speaking you should contact your provider and have them run a line test.

They can determine if the line is good or not. If It is all working fine at the time you call ask them to run monitoring on the line for the following 24-48 hours to try and anticipate a reoccurrence. Insist that they call you back regardless at the end of the monitoring term to share their results with you.

Hope this helps.

Yes, you need to swap the router out.

This is assuming you dont have the netopia in bridge mode with another device behind it.
