IXUS 430. I went to the desert and when I took a picture and tried to
shut down the camera the objective didn't retract and after a beep
appeared on the display an error: E18. Is possible to reset the camera
or can U explain me how can I reach the objective inside the camera and
try to clean off the sand?

    Thanks a lot!

Hi

What you are seeing is a generic message that means there is some sort of problem with the lens, it could happen in many different ways such as sand or dirt in the lens gears.

A couple solutions would be to either buy a defective camera online and make one good camera from the two if you can do that sort of thing yourself, or secondly have it repaired by somebody.

Don't bother trying to send the camera to Canon if it is out or warranty (though you can call them and verify what I'm about to say) because they will want $150+ to do the repair for you. Parts are not cheap to buy from them.

I know of one very affordable digital camera repair business... because I own it. The name is Darntoothysam, feel free to check us out, we are on that big auction website also (I don't plug their name for free), our seller ID is 'darntoothysam'. If you Google "darntoothysam" you will find us.

We have your repair listed as a package in our store for about $70. This covers a new lens, and return shipping of your camera! We even give a 45 day warranty on parts and labor. If you think you can use us then please check us out, even if you need to ask more questions then please feel free to contact me.

Hope this helps,

Thomas

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

LENS ERROR 2 Exilim EX-H30

Try to reset the camera, by removing the battery and memory card for a few seconds. Then reinsert both and switch on again. Make sure nothing is obstructing the free way of the lens. When it does not help, perhaps a sensor or the movement mechanise is damaged. These errors also occur, when you accidentally touch the lens when it must move out. Before you give a camera to a repair centre, ask what it will cost and compare the price to what a new camera will cost.

What is the Meaning of turn the camera off remove the lens cap and turn the camera on'

Really it means what it says.
Switch of the camera, and switching it on again, will reset the program, like a cold boot from a computer. Perhaps the camera could not move the lens barrel and as a precaution it gave this warning. When you removed the lens cap, please check there is no mechanical obstruction on the lens. Then switch on again. When the error keeps coming back you should ask advice to a Nikon certified crevice centre close to you.

How can i fix the error 16:10 on my digital camera- Sony DSC T-90

Hi. If you mean error 61:10 then that is a Lens error. Specifically relating to
the zoom. If you stilll can zoom in and out fully then just reset the camera.
If not then you will need to replace your lens. They are fairly inexpensive
and easy to install. You can search www.ecrater for replacement part.
If you need help just ask the seller. Good luck

Lens error on Cannon Powershot SD600

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Cannot reset camera

I was having the exact same problem. The screen would turn red and i would get an error message. I realized the lens lid stayed open even when the camera shut itself off. I hit the corner of the camera a few times (the side with the lens) until the lens lid shut. Then I tried to turn on the camera and it worked!

Switch off and on again? Take battery out and replace. Thats the only 2 ways of 'restarting a camera that I know of. Does your model have a 'reset' function? You will have to check the manual for that. Or ask Canon support.
