Since having my computer reset a few months ago my speakers haven't worked since. They are connected to my computer and I know they work as when i switch them on the green light shows. As soon as they are switched on I can hear a crackling noise coming from them. The volume icon has dissapeared and when I click on 'Sounds,Speech and Audio Devices' it comes up with no Audio device. When going to control panel looking under 'Hardware' it says the device can not start. I have tried un-installing and re- installing the speakers several times and the same thing appears. As you can tell i'm not very technical with computers so any help would be greatly appreciated thankyou.
Try going to support.dell.com and entering your Service Tag. Then click on drivers and downloads and download and install the audio driver that they currently recommend for your machine. Sounds like a driver problem and something that wasn't set properly after the computer was reset.

the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good or you might have to clean the dust from your computer dust causes static which causes your computer to overheat and all sorts of problems be sure to wear an anti static earth strap before touching anything inside your computer try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the CPU central processing unit and your SOUND CARD dust causes static to build up in a computer causing it to overheat any many other problems hope this helps
Hello,, your problem is likly due to faulty contacts on the mechanical switches in your unit, you must dissemble the unit to the point of being able to access the switches main body,(electrical contacts) and spray cleaner solutions on the contacts, this will clean the contact surfaces and restore normal operation of your device, the contact switches are likely Aux input, tape monitor any equalizer switches. a contact cleaner spray from the any electronic supply will work well and a finite use of WD 40 is also very good, but use it sparingly. Hi. Check your speaker system with a different audio device like iPod or any MP3 Player using the same jacks. If the speaker system gives out sounds then nothing is wrong with it... if no sounds come out, then you know what I mean...
Try to replace the speaker of your sub-woofer... maybe that can fix it!
Hi all, I also purchased a logitech x-540 a few days ago and also have
the center speaker outputting sound when i test or play the subwoofer.
I didn't think this is normal and am now confused. Maybe its a problem
with the audio drivers? MB is a ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 with Soundmax
drivers. Hopefully someone can help to diagnose/ find a soluytion.

1. Plug USB into USB port (any) 2. Plug Black speak cable into LIGH GREEN (NOT BLACK) connector 3. You will see a popup window - make sure it is on Front Speaker out 4. Click OK - you will a cartoon computer with speakers on either side -then click on one of the
speakers to test 5. if that does not work then follow this:

click on Restore at bottom then "Reinstall apps and drivers" - look for hardware drivers that you
need. Click "install now"
I repaired Z-560 speakers with a defective left front channel by chopping off one of the input leads close to the 3.5 mm stereo jack that goes into the PC and joining on the leads from a new one. At first I thought the fault lay in the main amplifiers in the sub woofer unit but I was wrong and it turned out to be far simpler to fix than I anticipated.
