Question about Computers & Internet

Virus repair My computer was recently diagnosed with a major virus. It was suggested that I could get it repaired for $200 plus restored for an additional $100 or just repaired minus the restoration. Another suggestion was to purchase a new computer. Now I was told by another source that I could buy the XP program and install it and the virus will be removed automatically when installing. Is this true?

Shut down

Possible corrupt operating system. The cause of corrupt operating system is Windows file corrupted or virus infected Windows.

Solution corrupt Windows files:
1. START - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Recovery Options - System Restore (restore to the date when the OS is still normal)
2. START - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Recovery Options - System Image Recovery (restore using a backup system that you created)

Solution files corrupted due to virus infected windows
Update anti-virus and virus scan (if the virus is detected, the primary action = repair, secondary action = quarantine). Then repair the operating system with System Restore or System Recovery Options.
Note:
If the operating system infected with virus (virus infected not long ago), the best solution is to use System Restore. Restore to a date when the windows are still normal.

My computer is freezing or not responding. Also downloads are being blocked completely

Sounds like you have a virus. boot into safemode with networking and download malwarebytes run that in safe mode. then restart into normal windows and run malware again. then i suggest downloading AVG its free and antivirus great program. also if you are using mcaffee dont use it. It slows your PC down way to much

I recently restored my computer to it's factory state to try to remove a virus, but now i cant get past the black start up screen, and now i need a system repair disc and i dont have one

Try to go to the recovery console rather than restoring to a prior date. This will get it back to factory state to remove the virus, in my experience.

Will not connect to internet, wireless or cable,

For $200, they probably will be:
(1) backing-up all your data files;
(2) using the CD-ROMs that came with your computer, reinstalling Windows
(3) applying all the Windows Update and Microsoft Update security-updates
(4) reloading free software (Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader)
(5) installing some anti-virus software
(6) restoring your data from a backup

So, pay the $200, or do it yourself.

Laptop stops loading after password screen...

Go back into system restore and restore the system to a previous point. This is most commonly a virus that locks down your icons. If you can get it to restore to a prior point then make sure you run your antivirus scanner and look for viruses and get rid of them. Hope this helps. Thanks!!

The please wait then welcome and stays at welcome.

1. Try to boot your computer in Safe mode and run a full system virus scan with your anti-virus software, this may fix the problem. The system will boot in safe mode only if its not a major damage to the file. If the system is not booting in safe mode, then perform system restore. Click start>all programs>Accessories>System tools>System Restore. Restore computer to a date where it was working fine.
2. In case the system refuses to boot up at all, then it is recommended to run a repair setup of windows Xp. To run repair setup, boot the computer with Windows Xp bootable CD and on installation screen, press R for repair setup. The admin password is requested when you try to enter the Repair Console on the installation CD, so you did not run a Repair Install, correct?

The quickest solution would be to try a System Restore back to Tuesday of last week or earlier. You can find System Restore under Start Button->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools

If your hard drive is big enough try using Partition Magic unless you already have another partition. You can send your most important things like music, pictures and docs to the other partition. Then do a reinstall only on the C partition. Doing a system restore is drastic anyway putting your computer back as the day you bought it.
Viruses are great for messing up window system files and settings which without proper virus removal software, re-installation of the most practical partition (C) is the one to target your repairs to. This case most likely being reinstalling windows which by default is only on C. Be careful of your choices when choosing which partition to delete and reinstall. Pick only C. leaving (x) where that means your other partitions, alone.
