Find your external drive there and right click on it, then select assign new drive letter. Select a letter from the midlle of the alphabet like m, then enter. I have a 1TB WD my passport external harddrive and its not recognised on my sony blu ray

You are trying to conect this disk to the standalone Sony bluray device with USB cable?
You are sure sony have implemented this functions (external disk support) on this player?

Now knowing enough about the sony device, you should first of all see through the users manual. There could be a FAT(32) / NTFS issue. Some devices like this does not support NTFS, and the drive must be formated with FAT32.
