Your modem will have 1 ethernet socket, your router usually has 1 wan socket to plug the modem in, and 4 lan sockets to plug other devices in, the printer should be plugged into the router if you are trying to network it, you will need print server capabilities from your router.
IF your router does not have print server options then you need to just share your printer over your network with it attached to a PC, this PC must obviously have to be switched on for the other computers to use it.
You will need the other computers to be in the same workgroup, and to install the printer on the other computers as a network printer

So you want to comminictae the printer to your pc right? If you have a router, the printer should be plug in to the router directly as well as your pc to the router.

Plug the extender into the electric socket in your home.
Whatever your router name is needs to be set up on your router and the words added to the end of your wifi name. _EXT.
I set mine with the same password as my normal wifi and saved it so it automatically finds the Extender unit.

Need help connecting to the internet. don't know where to start.

Please follow these steps:
  1. From your cable or ADSL modem connect its network port ( An RJ-45 connector that's similar to a phone line connector just it's wider and have 8 pins ) to the WAN port of your wireless router, commonly this cable (Ethernet type) is included with it.
  2. With a wired connection from PC to router (Ethernet), look for the wizard setup disk and launch it, this will guide you step by step to set up you wireless router.

f you are hooking it up to a DSL cable/modem,
1. Remove the sticker covering the network connector on the Network Adaptor and
plug your Ethernet cable in the connector labeled NETWORK.
2. Plug the AC power cord for the PlayStation2 system into an electrical outlet.
3. Turn on the PlayStation2 system and start the Network Adaptor Start-up Disc.
If you are hooking it up to a router:
1. Remove the sticker covering the network connector of the Network Adaptor.
2. Connect an Ethernet network cable from the NETWORK connector of the Network Adaptor to an available LAN port of the router.
3. Connect the WAN port of the router to the DSL or cable modem.
4. Connect a personal computer (not pictured) to an available LAN port of the
router. Use a web browser on the PC to set up the router to reach the
Internet.
5. Follow the specific instructions that come with the router. There is no additional installation for switches.
If you are hooking it up to a LAN:
1. Remove the sticker covering the network connector of the Network Adaptor.
2. Connect an Ethernet network cable from the NETWORK connector of the Network Adaptor to a wireless Ethernet bridge.
3. Connect the WAN port of the wireless router to the DSL or cable modem.

Second computer connected to this model gives message "Network cable unplugged" when it is not! network connection intermittent. What can we do please?

Hi Jackie!
It sounds like a communication problem between the router and the computer. Try the following solutions to solve this:

1.Connect the LAN cable to other free LAN port in the router.

2. Try using a different LAN cable.

3. a. Open Device Manager
b. Go to Network adapters. Click on the "+" sign next to it.
c. Double-click on your network adapter.
d. On Advanced tab, look for Speed/duplex settings (or Media Type)
and change it's value to Full autonegotiation (or AutoSelect).
e. Click OK on all windows.
f. Close the Device Manager and restart your computer.

4. Reinstall or update your network adapter device drivers.

A "workaround" solution - use a wireless network adapter to connect wirelessly to the router.

Hope I helped,
Pelu.

Router not working unless

Several questions --

How is this wired?

Comming from the Cable (tv) or a phone wire (DSL) from a phone jack you are connected to a modem/whatever supplied by your service provider. Then an ethernet cable (looks like a fat phone cable with extra wide connectors (8 metal connectors instead of 2 or 4) connects the modem/whatever to your router's WAN port (the separate port not one of the block of 4) and another ethernet cable connects the one of the outer's Lan ports (probably block of 4) to the desktop computer and your laptop operates wirelessly. Is this correct? If not explain houw this is wired, please. For consistency please start at the cable or phone wire.

Does your desktop do anything to log into the internet with a userid and password maybe?

If so who is your internet service provider?

We may need to change the login process and get it into the router and off the desktop.
