Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

On my WIndows XP OS, I am being asked if I would like to register the product with Microsoft, either online (it's a desktop computer that's been in storage for years, and is not connected to the Internet), or over the phone. When I called the number, an automated "lady" asks me for the numbers that are located on my screen. Then she tells me that she won't be able to provide me with the registration #'s. Before placing my computer in storage years back, it was working beautifully. How can I retrieve the several hundred, irreplaceable pictures that are stuck on the computer? I'd appreciate any advice you have for me to once again see my photos. Andy~

How do I get my product number that Microsoft keeps asking for?

They're asking you for a Product ID, this can be found under My Computer:

Left Click on Start
Right Click on Computer
Left Click on Properties
Whether you have Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, your Product ID will appear in this window under "Registered To" or "Product Activation". Keep in mind that Microsoft covers Technical Support under a one-year warranty. After this time has passed, Microsoft will charge you for Technical Support. Also, if your Product Key consists of the letters "OEM", you will need to contact your computer's manufacturer for technical assistance.

Product key windows sp2

If you purchased a computer since 2001, the decal on the computer (side-panel of a desktop, or bottom of a laptop) will have the 25-character product-key.

If you purchased Windows XP at a "retail" store, the product-key was included.

If you made an online purchase of Windows XP, check your E-mail (and your 'JunkMail' folder) for a message containing the product-key.

My XP has been registered Appr 3 years ago. Recently keep asking me to Register. I have the Produckt No for my XP,Given by SONY (on the back of my PC). Could you please imform me haw to re-register with...

Normally registration is asked only when the system is reinstalled or newly installed.

Ensure that the computer is not asking registration for a different product, for example a newly installed printer, new microsoft Office etc.

If you reinstalled windows, or did some operation on the system as registry clean etc. , and you think it is a genuine registration request, you can decide to register, or ask not to have the request prompted again.

If you think this can be a virus or a non genuine request from fake software contact Microsoft here: Microsoft Contact
