What are the difficulties in implementing GST in India?

It is not easy to make any changes to the prevailing taxation norms of a country and the same applies to a democratic Republic like India, which has a total number of 29 states with all growing powerful day by day. This thereby landed up creating problem for the central government with the decision of implementing the GST bill even though GST impact was subject to be similar for people and governments throughout the country.

The issues related to implementation of GST were classified in two categories:
The Reluctant Attitude of the States: The first major problem that came into light is the reluctant attitude of some state governments with the implementation of this bill. Most of the state governments have a fear of losing out funds/money despite the central government's proposed tax revenue sharing program.
Logistics: Both the state and the central government has to implement GST simultaneously. But Central governments due to the lack of constitutional authorization to raise tax without acceptance by the state governments, is at the mercy of the latter for the implementation of GST.

How will the GST impact Indian capital markets?

GST is the biggest economic reform since independence and has affected Indian economy in several ways. It is imposed by the Indian government to bring all the taxes under one roof and simplify the tax paying structure. GST has affected the Indian capital market positively. It has made the work smoother and tax structure simpler. Impact of GST on working capital is not hidden from anyone. With GST, the working capital has to pay only one type of tax which is much easy to understand than paying that layered form of taxes.

GST is introduced to remove the bottleneck of several taxes in the country which leads to black money and corruption. It has introduced with the sole objective of providing equal benefits to the common man, working capital, and government.

What is the impact of GST on MSME sectors?

Like every other sector GST implications on MSMEs can be both positive and negative. Let us check both positive and negative implication of GST on the MSME sector:

  • Positive Impact:
  • Unified Taxation: Earlier SMEs had to face multiple taxation procedures, a complete time-consuming process. But with the GST implication, there is a uniform taxation making it easier pay tax. In order words, GST will help doing business with neutral tax.
  • Negative Impact:
  • Burden of Higher Tax Rate: Earlier, MSMEs had to pay service tax of 15% which is now increased to 18%. This is certainly an increase in the burden of higher tax payment. This burden will further fall on end consumer as the price of the product or service will increase.
  • Low Tax Limit: Earlier, MSME earning above Rs 1.50 crore was placed under tax bracket, but under GST, the limit has dropped to Rs 20 lakh which is a huge blow for the sector.

How will GST affect common people consumers and small and medium businesses?

After the roll out of the Goods & Service Tax, there has been major question of how GST can impact small and medium business owners. Every suppliers and dealers in retail industry fall under the category of GST, which may make difficult to do the business, especially due to change in the tax regime. During pre-GST, no duty was to be paid by the manufacturer, having a turnover in crores, but post-GST, the exemption limit is brought down. However, the best thing for small and medium businesses is, there will be no more multiple tax payment.

Moreover, for goods that are manufactured or sold in any part of India will not face any entry tax. This will certainly help in faster process of moving the product. However, as a part of impact of GST on small business in India, the tax will not differentiate between luxury good and normal goods. This will make harder for SMEs to compete with large enterprise.

Hi, I have a Casio PCR-T465. I'm a little stumped as how to change the GST & PST to just HST of 13%. I was wondering if you could help me out. Thanks!

You need to set one rate for HST and change your department links to look at the single rate. Which tax numbers do you use at the moment? E.g. tax1 PST, tax2, GST. We need to know which tax numbers are allocated for which tax types.
If anyone needs a manual for a Casio PCR-T465 cash register,
