There are couple of questions to ask , are u trying to connect the speakers to the monitor for a tv connection or using it to connect to a computer system , if connecting to the computer system , the audio settings have to be changed to the current speakers you connect to the monitor , or there might be a up link cable u might have got when u bought the monitor using which the sound will come out .
Your speakers do not plug into your monitor. Your speakers should be connected to a USB slot on your PC tower and the 3.5mm stereo plug should be put into the green stereo jack on your PC tower. If your audio jacks on your PC are not colour coded, then you should look for the jack which has a picture of a set of earphones over them.
Depending on your speakers, you may or may not be required to keep the stereo plug connected in order to get sound. Some models transmit model over the USB connection and others just use the USB connection as a way to supply power to the speakers and need the stereo plug to be connected in order to have sound. I suggest trying both.
There's an adapter cable required to go from the Mac's external monitor connector to a standard VGA plug. You can see what it looks like here at the Apple Store site. Once you have the adapter you can use a plain old monitor cable with VGA plugs at both ends to connect your Flatron.
