As you have already stated that you have checked the settings, well in that case it could be a hardware problem wherein you will have to take the camera or servicing

However before that i would request you to check the following settings once more

Check the option of "wise shot", in the camera automatically determines the use of Flash, try turning it off an on

Also Below the +/- button we find the four-way controller which is responsible for different functions

Left button is for Flash settings (Auto, auto w/redeye reduction, fill flash, slow synchro, flash off, redeye reduction)

Make sure you do not turn the flash off from here

Thanks

Canon pc1251 won't take picture with flash on. it will if i turn off flash

Check if your camera is on automatic. Then f there is too much light it won't work. To use a flash for fill in, you have to be on a scene mode. Check the manual. If the camera has a flashing light, indicating the flash won't work, you have a serious problem.

Canon 550 ex speedlight - flashes okay. Won't sink with 60d (tried different cameras at dealer - same problem) Camera is okay .

Bruce,
Try these steps:
1. Set camera to manual2. Set shutter to 1/60
3. Set aperture to F5.6
4. ASA/ISO 200
5. 550EX on hotshoe
6. Do not set on slave or master
7. Turn on flash

Display must shows, ETTL.
If that doesn't work, you have to use the flash on manual.
Some of this model will not work fully on ATG Canon EOS-1D C, ATG Canon EOS-1D X IR, Canon EOS-1D X/60D/T4i because this flash is over 20 years old.

Unless you would want it to be modified by me.
But that can be costly when you can get the 580EX II for less than $425.00 USD.

Does the camera indicate that the flash is turned on? In most olympus cameras I have seen there is a lightning blot at the lower left corner of the screen. Verify that it is indeed there and let me know.

How do u turn off the flash on the olympus fe-170? im going to a clapton concert tonite and i need the flash to be set to off i tried everything and i cant turn it off....please help!...thanks!

Press Right-arrow (marked with the lightning bolt) repeatedly to select the flash mode. In this case, you want the lightning bolt inside a circle with a slash through it, indicating "no flash".

After the concert, don't forget to set it back to Auto, or the flash will never fire again :-)

My sb 600 fires with the camera but it seems not illuminate

Definately a settings problem. The camera will only syncronize on one specific speed. Youe best bet is to use auto. For manual, you'll have to set the shutter speed at the sync speed.

Flash Sync Speed
  • up to 1/250 X-Sync Speed
  • up to 1/8000 FP High Speed Sync
  • Red-eye reduction
    Red-eye reduction with slow sync
    Rear-curtain sync
    Slow sync
Front-curtain sync (normal) Flash Sync Modes
  • 1) i-TTL: TTL flash control by 1,005-pixel RGB sensor, built-in flash, SB-800, SB-600, SB-400: i-TTL balanced fill-flash and standard i-TTL flash
    2) AA (Auto Aperture-type) flash: Available with SB-800 used with CPU lens
    3) Non-TTL Auto: Available with Speedlights such as SB-800, 28, 27, and 22S
    4) Range-priority manual flash; available with SB-800 Flash Control

The mode dial (topside left) must be set to M. That's it for manual settings - the camera won't check anything, and certainly shouldn't require the flash. You need to choose your own shutter speed and aperture settings to get a good photo, but the camera will let you take a picture no matter how you have it set.

    Synchronization problem

    Set camera to Manual modes
    Set Shutter to 60
    Set Aperture to 5.6
    Set ISO 400
    Set lens at 10 feet
    Subject at 10 feet

Turn on flash and wait until fully ready and do the following:
Set subject dead center, shoot with flash
Set subject to the right, " " "
Set subject to the left, " " "

Only the subject in center should have correct exposure.

    Hope they are helpful.

    Help! My flash isn't working!

1 The flash- with the camera shut down take the batteries out. leave an hour. put them back in. Now - switch on and go to flash mode. Hold the camera to your ear.Can you hear a slight hgih pitched whine? This is the capacitor charging up. If you did not hear it then the flash unit is dead. But to be sure- read the manual and make sure you have set it up and operating it correctly. Blurry picture are something else[possibly] Check that you have not inadvertantly got the camera set to MACRO mode[this may also affect the flash inability. A good reread of the manual will do little harm and check out all those controls again.

On camera flash will not help in out door sports facilities. If you have maxed the ISO and set it to Aperture priority -which will slow the shutter down and give you camera shake and blurred images as the players dart about- Ho Hum you ain't going to win this one. Buying a bolt on flash I doubt will be powerful enough either, take what you can and get to grips with a good image editor- Though I guess the results will still be 'noisy'
