Question about Nikon D70s Digital Camera

2 Answers

"For" Message I was infrequently getting a "for" message, which stopped me from taking pics. I bought a new card and all was well for a while. However, it started again. I removed and reinserted the card and this seemed to work. Now, the "for" message is constantly there. The green light flashes on for a moment when I insert the card, then goes off. If I turn the camera on, the "for" message flashes on and off.

Of course the camera is telling you to format the card... you know that, right, but you don't want to because (a) it is already correctly formatted and (b) this warning happens when you are half way thru shooting. Try another card that you know to be good. Format it in the camera and use it. Does it work now?
Do this: 1. Get all the images off your old card and on to your computer. 2. Reformat the card on your computer. 2 a. If you have Lexar Image rescue, use this to reformat and test your card. 3. Reset the camera using the combination of recessed buttons as described in the manual. 4. Insert the card, turn the camera on and reformat it again in the camera. If the problem persists you probably have a camera fault and it needs servicing.

The camera is telling you to format the card. You can do this in the cameras playback menu. That should take care of the problem.

It seems the card is not formatted correctly

Try to format the card from within the Camera or You can format the card on a computer using a Card reader.

Note: make sure you format the card as FAT32 and no other format.

Camera cards are never to be formatted on the computer....only in the camera. "card error" usually always means you need to format the card in the camera. This will erase it so download any pics you want to save first.

Check the memory whether the lock ( a small switch on the memory card) is activated. If so deactivate it.

New card

According to the instructions that came with the camera, it states that a maximum of 256 mb memory card is allowed. So, 1G amd 2G memory cards won't work. Like you, I bought a 2G memory card, getting the same message that the card was full so when I checked the manual, I saw my mistake. Live and Learn! I should have checked the manual BEFORE I bought this card. Now I have to go out and buy the 256 mb memory card (and I'll save the 2G card for a new camera that I hope to buy in the future).yankeefloridian@yahoo.com

! Card Error Message

I've had similar problem when I was messing around with the Sony memory stick. The cheap pins inside that suppose to touch the memory got screwed up. I just bought the camera so took it back to the store and got a different one. Anyway, try shining a flashlight into the memory slot and see how the pins are. If they are not line up then use a really small something to re-line them like they suppose to. See if it's possible to reformat the memory. That sometime help too. It happened to my sis cell phone. We had to reformat the memory stick to get it working right. I do not think this have anything to do with battery. If you don't put memory in and camera say "No memory" and with memory in and it read "Mem error" then likely the reader or the pins are screwed up. Goodluck.
