Question about GPS

1 Answer

NAVMAN S70 S Series - is it possible to charge the unit and use it at the same time - when plugged into cigarette lighter in the car and plugged into bottom of GPS unit, the unit seems to assume this is a PC to GPS data load but while this is happening it doesn't let you use and charge the unit at the same time? Thanks

    Same prob with s30.
Emailed navman, they replied next day:

    Dear John,

Have you tried to connect the device to the PC, open the Navdesk software, click on Tools and Reinstall software.

Please note that the software will remove the voice files and you will need to put them back on again.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

    Kind regards,
    Ana

I have the same with an S70. There is no option to adjust default ower source. I'm pretty good witht his type of thing but I'm stumped here.

Yes I have a similar problem with my Navman S90i ie when the car charger is connected the unit cannot be used for navigation.

Is there an issue with the wiring or perhaps the voltage??

The charger is not from Navman does this mean I have to buy a Navman charger at $35.

My flatmate has a S80 model it comes with the charger moulded into the windshield mounting bracket.

    Any solutions please..

Yes, you should be able to use it while it is charging no matter what the charge source is unless it is a computer. This must be a change you can make in the setup screens.

I'm unfamiliar with your model, but you should be able to hunt through the menus and find the section that defines what the default charge source is.

    Have you done this yet?

Some chargers will 'fool' the satnav into thinking they're connected to a pc, my S90 was just the same. I bought a car charger on eBay that said in the description "These are purpose designed car chargers so that you can also continue to use your devise whist charging it will not go in to PC sync mode." I bought one of these and it now lets me use the satnav and charge at the same time, whereas my other car charger wouldn't let me.

I have just purchased a new Vauxhall Corsa and my Navman 1CN320 will not fit in the cigarette lighter to keep it charged. Can you supply an adapter

Hi.

Here the adapter cable for your car lighter.

As far as I know the new Corsa has a standard cigarette lighter, the cable above should do the job. If the problem is different and you need more help, just let me know.

Regards.

I DO NOT HAVE THE POWER CHARGING CORDS... ONLY THEAIN PART OF THE LIGHT/INFLATOR . WHAT POWER SUPPLY CLORD IS USED?

On the side of the unit is a small black flap that covers two prongs that you can plug a standard 110-120 volt extension cord into which will charge the unit. There are 3 read lights and 1 green lights on the top that lets you know when it is fully charged. The 12 volt charging cord is basically a cord that has 2 cigarette lighter plugs. One plugs into the unit and the other plugs into a power port/cigarette lighter plug.

Fuse blown on cigarette lighter Saturn 2001

It sounds like you have a bad charging cable for the GPS or the cable is overloading the cigarette lighter.

The cigarette lighter is designed for less power then a 12v power outlet.

Therefore it is easy to blow the fuse for the cigarette light if you install something that draws too much power.

Unit (tom tom 1xl) turning off

One hour is about the time the unit will run without a power source.

You need to check that the cigarette lighter is working. Check the car fuse.

Check the fuse (one of the six bumps) on the cigarette lighter plug has not blown.

Is the cigarette lighter / Tom Tom lead damaged in any way?

Can not figure out how to charge the Vector start it pro

Easy, just insert the "cigarette lighter style" plug from the A/C charger into the "cigarette lighter style" socket on the top of the unit, and then insert the A/C adapter in to a wall socket. It can also be charged in your car with a cord that has double "cigarette lighter style" plugs at ether end, one inserted in the Vector and the other in your cigarette lighter.
Wait, one more - clamp the units cables properly on to your cars battery terminals, then start your car. periodicly checking for full charge.
Hope it helps... Good luck

Charging the battery in Nuvi 760

1) Check the cigarette lighter is working by plugging in the lighter unit and see if it gets hot. If it doesn't then it is possible the fuse has blown.

2) You can plug the unit into a PC using the USB cable and if there is a fault you will get a message on the screen about 'USB over-current' but it shouldn't damage the computer.

If it runs/charges using the PC and (1) is OK then you may have a problem with the cigarette lighter - cradle cable or a problem with the cradle itself.

But it connects dirctly to the Garmin GPS unit, not to the cradle like the Cigarrette lighter unit does. .

How to recharge the unit

you can charge it via the usb or cigarette lighter.  either method will work and i am not aware of any problems created by using the lighter.  that really should be the primary charge method as it is expected to be used in the car.  is it charging on your computer.  if it is, but not on the lighter you may want to ensure that the lighter is itself working correctly and then also check to make sure that the fuse in the car charger is intact.  just a few suggestions
