I have the same problem. We cleaned the dishwasher out because the grit was coming from the dishwasher...however, we still have dirt/grit in our dishes, but a lot less. How do we get rid of this all together?

I had this exact problem and found the solution. Since bowls or cups accidentally turned over were being found after a wash cycle with this grit caught inside, I decided to turn a whole load of bowls upside down intentionally to catch this stuff. I filled each bowl about 90% with water to start with so that the pump wouldn't run dry. I ran about 7 cycles of rinse only, dumping out the grit found in every single bowl after each cycle. Finally, after 7 cycles, there was no more grit to be found. I ran a load of dirty dishes and they came out perfectly clean.

If you live in an area with hard water, the grit is probably hard water deposits. Detergents no longer contain phosphate, so they don't clean hard water deposits anymore. There is a great solution at www.cloudydishes.com

Is Your Dishwasher Leaving Your Dishes Dirty? We Can Help!

Empty out all the dishes. Add a box of Dishwasher Magic (or a full cup of powdered TANG Orange Juice) in the bottom of the dishwasher. Run dishwasher through a complete cycle.

The acid in the products eat up all the grime and small food particles that deposit in the spray arms and in the pipes that supply the water to your dishes.

Having sand and dirt particles left on my dishes. What do I do

Considering you don't eat sand and dirt, I can only assume that the source of this contamination is from your water supply. Installation of a filter, either on the dishwasher supply line or preferably, the entire home, would solve this issue.

There is food and grit stuck to my glasses. Where is this coming from? I am rinsing all the dishes before I put them in , so it must be in the dishwasher somewhere,

We used to have this problem with a Kenmore that had a built-in "garbage disposal"--it was a little blade that ground up larger food particles. Occasionally a cherry or olive pit would get inside and dull, chip or break the blade, and the symptom was food particles on the dishes. The solution was to replace the grinder.

My dishes keep coming out with small food particles on them. what do i need to do to get this to stop?

If your dishes have small particules of food that is being left on your dishes this could either be due to food still being left inside the chopper area which is located on this diagram at part number 9 http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/M0704047-00008.png click this link if you remove part number 7 and find when you get to the chopper there is no food debris left there then you would look at the drain pump both before and after the pump area and remove the hoses to the pump to assure that there is nothing stuck or clogged in the drain area. You would also remove the drain hose from where it plugs into your disposal or exiting point and assure that nothing is blocking this area as well If you have any further questions message me back Thanks again Rick
p.s soap debris can also cause these small particules on dishes and I find using a product called AFFRESH works excellent in cleaning the inside of the dishwasher from these soap deposits but would need further clarification as to what type of deposits you think these are

Some dishes have particles on them and mold is showing up aroung the drain area but all water has been draining out

Try running a small bottle of apple cidar vinegar or a can of frozen OJ thru the dishwasher without dishes in it. the citric acid will breakup the deposits.

Maytag dishwasher quiet series 400. Dishes have hard stuck on grit and food particles after rinsed and dried.

Very common problem is soap build up in these machines. Try putting it into a wash cycle with no dishes, and no soap. Let it wash for about 5 minutes, and then open the door. If you see alot of soap suds, then soap build up is the problem. Try doing a couple loads with no soap, and no dishes, and throw a cup of vinegar into the machine halfway through the wash. Repeat as necessary. This should solve your problem.
