Canon Powershot A540 - Change Batteries when Batteries Fully Charged

With fully charged LION batteries, my Powershot A540 only displays the message "change the batteries" on a totally black screen. If I turn it off and back on, it will occasionally show a normal display but with the battery indicator on the lowest setting. It will thenI take 1 or 2 shots before again displaying the "change the batteries" screen. Any ideas?

(Since at first I thought it must be the batteries I have tried several different brands of batteries all fully charged and I get the same results. The batteries work fine in all other cameras and electronics except this camera.

Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

When i put the new batery it will display "change the batery" and automatically power off the camera

This camera takes AA batteries. You must use good alkaline batteries or better, a set of high capacity NiMH recharegables. Zinc batteries just aren't up to the task.

New rechargeable batteries are supplied only partially charged. You need to charge them fully before use.

The low battery warning light flashes even when the batteries are fully charged. We tried several different batteries and it still does it. The camera will stay on for 15 minutes and then it will shut off

Camera has failed to operate giving a "change batteries" message

Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Replace battery sign in New canon A590si camera.

You're using the wrong batteries. You need to purchase lithium batteries. They are quality batteries for high powered, battery operated electronics. Personally, I have a battery charger and use rechargable duracell batteries. (HR6/ DC1500/ NiMH/ 1,2V) Gives you approximately 16 hrs before having to recharge.

I have Canon power shot S2 IS digital camera.I bought it around 2 years back. Now my camera is showing the sign of "change the batteries" even though the batteries are fully charged and the lens does not...

i suggest replacing a fresh battery will most likely solve your prob, overtime rechargeable battery can drain easily, try changing with a new battery and see if it does work well, there might be insufficient current, thats why it tends to drop of voltage easily upon using,
there is a specified lifetime for rechargeable battery, depends on your usage and charging method, theymaybe fully charged but sometimes wont give you enough power to drive
cheers

Check your batteries. Your batteries may not be fully charged. One reason may be that you are charging batteries on a different AC Voltage supply, than what the charger is meant for; eg, charger expects 240 volts and you are charging with 110 volts.
