Clicking noise coming from hard drive

Clicking noise is giving you an indication that your hard drive is about to fail as clicking is one of the symptom of physical hard drive failure. This type of hard drive failure situation needs to be handle on time to rescue yourself from a data loss situation. Also i would suggest you to shut down your system stop doing anything on your system and immediately take expert data recovery assistance if you really want to save your data.

The clicking noise may indicate a faulty hard drive.
When a hard disk makes a clicking sound and the computer does not detect it then the hard disk is faulty. This is commonly known as "The click of death".
There is no way of fixing this hard drive, if you need to recover your data, then there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

Hard drive powers up and then the light at the front indicating that its on shuts off followed by a clicking noise

hi; if clicking sound is continuous its time to replace your hard drive.
inside your hard disk have failure in one of its heads.
if your computer still read the data inside the HDD backup all the files
into new HDD.

I have a toshiba satellite m55-s3314 and when I turn it on it stays stuck on the first screen and the laptop makes noises like it stuck

if it's making a clicking noise, like metal-to-metal clicking, then most probably your hard drive is failing. If this is the case, get the hard drive into a USB tray and get all your important data out of it. You'll have to get a new IDE/ATA hard drive for your Toshiba if you want to continue using it.

I have an i-rocks 3.5 usb/firewire combo external hard drive that seems to be malfunctioning. When i turn it on, it doesn't boot correctly and my computer doesn't recognize it. It continues to make this...

The clicking isn't a good sign; it means the drive is being repeatedly told to start rotating but it either can't start or come up to speed. There is a problem called 'stiction' meaning that the head(s) are somewhat 'glued' to a disk surface. Haven't heard of this problem in recent years but it still may be possible and not as likely with the extreme shrinkage of head size..
BTW, the actual drive probably has a different name and model number but would have to be removed to see the label.

HDD keeps clicking

The clicking noise is the sound of the read/write heads going to the home position. The arm or bracket the heads are mounted on make the noise when they hit up against the equivalent of a *door stop*. This is the drives attempt to reorient itself when it can read something where it expects to find it. As you have guessed its probably a mechanical fault and definitely not repairable.
