I DID NOT USE MY TVR460 VIDEO CAMERA FOR 3 YEARS. NOW IT IS NOT RECORDING OR PLAYING ANY TAPE. IT CAN RECORD AND PLAY ONLY ON SONY MEMORY STICK.

Recording / Playback head is metal with a thin gap which quickly becomes corroded from simple condensation - unless stored with water absorbent material in airtight container. Sorry, (you needed a newer model anyway) ;-'

I have an old Sony CCD TR55E Handycam, I bought from new. Now I want to transfer my tapes to DVD, and seem to have lost sound output playing tapes to TV/Recorder. Tried running tape cleaner, no succes

What is your signal path? The question you need to answer is, "Where are you losing the audio?" Are you losing it between the tape and the playback head, or are you losing it in the cable, or are you losing it at the TV/Recorder?

Does the camera have an audio out into which you can plug ear buds to test the audio from the camera playback?

In playback my camcorder stops and 31:11 flashes. Any ideas?

This most likely means the taps is jammed.
You can try and get the tape to eject. To do this, remove your battery from the back of the camera. Also if your camera has another small battery under the LCD (the size if a nickel) remove it too. Wait 2 minutes. Then, plug the camera in with the power cord. Try changing the camera from playback to record mode. The tape should eject at this point. If this doesn't work, try it again but this time start in record mode and change to playback after plugging it in.
I hope this helps.

I have the same jittery picture on playback on a Sony DCR-TRV460. I see you've stated that the drum could be misaligned/damaged. I've used the cleaning head with no success. I need to keep this device...

Yes sometimes when realigning the drum will not work. if the tapes were recorded with the drum out of alignment all tapes would have been recorded out of alignment. Delt with that situation where my player wouldnt play a customers tapes because his drum was out of alignment from factory. I had to use his camera to play all the tapes that were recorded on his camera.

Canon hi-8 camcorder will not playback recordings. full battery. ejects tape during playback

It sounds like the tape isn't turning and the player thinks it's to the end of the tape and ejecting it.Perhaps when you rewind its drawing the tape up so tight the sensor thinks it's at the end.Take the tape out and see if you can turn it by hand to release the tension. There's got to be some form of release mechanism to let the tape free wheel.Once loose I'll bet it will playback just fine.

Sony ccd-trv218e comming up with fault code C:31:23 wheen trying to record or playback tape

This indicates that the drum motor is not spinning. The tape should be ejected by the camera. There are a number of causes for this. This camera should be brought to an authorized sony service center for evaluation/repair.
