Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

The words "Lens Error" appears on the viewing screen

The lens does not fully extend, that's why it tries again. The lens probably does not extend or retract because of debris or a misaligned gear box. The lens can in about 50% of the cases be repaired without having to replace it. Try to return to manufacturer first. If you're out of warranty, there are third party place that fix them such as camera lens repairs. If you want to do it yourself, there are also free camera repair guide websites that show you how to replace the lens, the replacement part is usually available on ebay.

That is probably a lens error, or a problem with the main pcb inside the camera.

Only easy fix is checking if the problem disappears by removing batteries and putting them back.

Sanyo digital camera showing lens error 1114 or 112

Hi.

If your Sanyo digital camera is not starting and you get lens error 112 or lens error 1114 prompted on display, that means that the lens is getting stuck, and cannot extend or retract fully. The controller board detects the error on startup, and shuts down after displaying the error message.
This errors usually happen because of dirt, or because the lens mechanis mis damaged in consequence of a shock.

If lens does not retract, try helping the lens back, without putting too much strenght, while you turn off the camera at he same time.
If the lens does not extend, try tapping softly the back of the camera to help lens out, while you turn off the camera at he same time.
If the camera had been exposed to sand or dust, try blowing canned air on the lens.

If this does not work, the lens assembly must be taken apart completely and re-assembed, and for that you need a camera repair shop.

Also call the number listed on the owners manual to get support from the manufacturer.

Camera will not switch on/off properly, and "E18" appears on the screen

Hi,

"E18"indicates an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover in your camera .This error appears where the lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting .The error may also be displayed if the lens camera has been subjected to an external shock, or if a foreign substance (i.e. liquid, sand, dirt) enters the camera.Hold the camera so that your fingers do not touch the lens unit when you are shooting. Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case. Exercise caution to ensure that the camera does not accidentally power on while the camera is stored inside the case.If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera off and then on again, or if the error code is displayed frequently, a camera malfunction may have occurred and might require service from canon.Or else try pressing the power button on and held it down while extending the zoom lens. The lens will extend out and the camera will be freed from the error.

Thank you !!

Turns on for a few seconds, lens starts to extend, turns off.

Assuming that the battery is OK, the most likely cause for this behaviour is an out-of-kilter lens drive. If you are lucky it's just some dirt or grit jamming the lens. Try blowing some compressed air in the lens grooves, or place the camera with unextended lens down and gently tap it to dislodge any dust or sand. Repeat while lens is extending. If this fails, GENTLY try to help the lens extend. Do not force (you risk permanent damage to the lens, assuming there is no damage now). If the lens rotates while extending, still gently try to help it to rotate, twisting in the direction of rotation.

Unfortunately, it's possible that the lens drive is actually damaged and can't be realigned manually. In this case the camera will need to be repaired. Also, even if you succeed in refitting the lens - you'll hear a slight "click" and the lens will start working happily - you'll need to exercise extra care in case the drive is no longer up to spec.

Unfortunately, "extending lens" cameras are very sensitive to accidents such as turning on while something is blocking the lens from extending fully. In most cases there's an overload sensor which will retract the lens and power off the camera - but sometimes the overload will have damaged the internal drive train, which is often (not very cleverly, in my opinion) made of plastic instead of metal.

Lens error, restart camera

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.

Casio EXILIM camera lens will not extend fully!!!

Try plugging the PC interface cord into the external connector. No need to hook it up to your computer, just plug it in and out a few times. Then try to power up the camera.
Good luck.

Casio EXILIM camera lens will not extend fully!!!

It's the focus lens gears. The often times get knocked out of alignment by an impact, or debris gets in there. This can be fixed, but Casio won't help. Hint...google my username. ;)
