I have a VHS tape that has an hour worth of recorded material on it, but when I play it, it plays the first 11 minutes, then it goes to static and the counter stops counting. I can fast forward but when I...

You may think the tape has an hour of material on it, but the machine thinks otherwise. Either it didn't actually get recorded past the 11 minute point, or something erased the tape past that point. There's nothing to play after that time, so you're seeing the snowy screen. On most VCRs, the tape counter only works when a valid video signal is detected, which is why it's not advancing as the tape plays. There's nothing you can do to recover whatever was on the tape, so I hope it wasn't anything important.

Sylvania (SRD3900) DVD Player / VCR Combo i can't seem to plug in the red/white/yellow cables into the right places directly to my old toshiba tv to play either tapes or dvds. can you instruct me? thanks.

Greetings - It's very simple so I'll show you how and then I think it may be another problem (nothing broken).

You need to plug the corresponding color cables into to outputs on your player I've circled above and then into the corresponding inputs on the TV. You've probably done this correctly.
PLUS - You have to, using the remote for the player, set the source to either DVD or VCR and then you have to, finally, on your TV set the input (with the remote) to what is called probably VIDEO or VIDEO1. If there is still nothing on the screen keep (with the DVD or Tape playing) hitting the TV remote input button until you see an image or you've come around to where you started.

Unless something is broken (unlikely) you should be able to watch DVD's or Tapes depending on what input you select on the player.

If it's not working you've somehow missed a step or the Video input on the TV is called something else. If that happens come back here and give the player AND TV brand/model info and someone will be able resolve your problem.

Good Luck and thanks for using Fix Ya.

I go to record and it looks like it is recording. But when I play back nothing is there. It is doing this on all of my tapes.Tried viewingan old tape but when played back nothing is there,

You could try slaving the camera out to an external screen if you have the cables, you should find a RCA output socket on the camera marked video out (commonly known as a phono)normally yellow also a couple of audio out sockets one red and one white.
If you plug the yellow one into an external monitor you will see if it's the camera LCD screen that faulty.
Also check the iris is not turned down when playing back or recording this can happen if the camera is set to manual.
Set the camera to automatic and try again.
It sounds to me that the iris is closed, if the head drum is spinning you should get something even if it's random signal noise denoting clogged heads anyway the camera would flash up a clogged head icon so first as check the iris.

Unit does not record. The counter & LCD screen are on. The motor is driving the tape. When played back there is nothing on the screen. There is nothing on the viewfinder either.

Tape heads may be dirty; run a cleaning tape through as per the instructions. If the tape heads are damaged/worn-out then the drum will need replacing.

Sony DCR-TRV460 not playing back, blue screen

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if a blue screen is displayed when attempting to playback video from the camcorder.
  1. Stop the tape.
  2. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  3. Play the tape.
  4. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  5. Clean the video heads of the camcorder using a dry head cleaning cassette.IMPORTANT: Follow the instructions for use provided with the head cleaning cassette. It may be necessary to use the head cleaning cassette more than once per session.
  6. Reinsert the tape into the camcorder.
  7. Play the tape.
  8. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  9. Insert a different tape with video footage into the camcorder.
  10. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  11. Play the tape.
NOTES:
  • If a blue screen is still displayed, then the camcorder may require service .
  • If the tape plays back correctly, then the first tape may be faulty or there is a problem with the video recording.

Mini DV Tapes are not playing back. Nothing but blue screen when I try to view tape...no time code...nothing. Recently recorded footage plays back fine though?????

If recently recorded plays back ok, and there's no warning about low rf or head clogging problems,it seems to be electronic problem in vtr board, but usually is head problem, which is not so expensive.
