Question about Computers & Internet

I have a Bestec TFX02505DW Rev x4 for my Dell desktop. I have noticed lately that it has been giving off a sweet like electrical smell. It gets stronger over time. The pc runs fine but since the smell is odd, I dont run my pc anymore. Is this normal or is it going out on me.

I have an ABIT-AV8 motherboard with a similar odor. It can be suffocating after a while. I could be electrolyte from a capacitor that has overheated, however, some cheap components have this smell from the beginning, and there is nothing you can do about it. They use one-part heat-less cure resins that can never cure.

NO! Burning smells are never normal for a PC. Maybe a car, or a friend who recently ate spicy food, but not your PC.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The smell is from the motor that is bad and needs replacement, the hum/buzz sound itself indicates that the problem is with the motor, don't think it is the start capacitor. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

''sweet smelling'' steam and overheating light is on.

your heater core or heater core hoses are bad and have sprung a leak the sweet smell is from antifreeze this is not a do it yourself-er if you are squeamish about tackling a big job sometimes they can be a real pain to get, like the built the entire car around it.

Chemical odor

Hi serena38,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: You have a sweet chemical odor in our boat cabin, it leaves a sweet taste in your mouth. You cannot find the source. The fridge does not work. You can smell the odor stronger when the A/C is turned on or when the boat is closed up with the A/C off. Help????

Great, I live on a boat! I can think of two reasons for this. The first and most likly is electrical. Look carefully at the components especially the capaciter, it's on or near the motor. If it is leaking or out gassing, replace it. Wire corrosion can cause a wire to slowly give off fumes. These kinds of problems are common on a boat so look very carefully i.e. testing meter is helpfull here. I've already expirienced this and it sure was hard to find. Less likely is a freon leak. You won't smell the freon itself but if the oil is a little burnt, that can be smelly indeed. You will need a special leak detector for that. Anyway my money is on the electrical.
