Phone customer care and ask for technical department, unfortunately this is something that cannot be done at home without voiding your warranty.

The hard drive may be failing, or just the OS or hard drive corrupted. You could try this... Pull the hard drive out, and use a USB Hard Drive Adapter to connect the hard drive to a friend's computer, and save all the personal files (documents, pictures, etc.) you can to a folder on the friend's computer or an external hard drive.
Then, you could try to do a Factory Restore on the computer, and if that works, copy your personal files back to your newly restored computer.
Good luck.

Tip

PS3 Hard Drive Error or Restore Hard Drive

A Hard Drive error is a very common problem on the PS3 and this tip will outline how you can troubleshoot and hopefully resolve a hard drive problem. If your PS3 is showing signs that the hard drive is corrupted or is displaying a message asking you to restore the hard drive follow these steps carefully and you may well avoid an expensive repair or having to consign your hard drive to the bin.

Steps 8 and 9 involve erasing data from your Hard Drive so if at all possible please try to back up your data before commencing this procedure. To back up data go to 'System Settings - Backup Utility' Then follow the on screen instructions and back up the information to an external storage device such as a USB Pen.

To begin the process of troubleshooting and resolving your Hard Drive error you must first put the unit into Safe Mode. Follow these steps carefully;

1) Turn off the PS3 by holding the power button on the front of the unit till it turns red.

2) Hold the power button until you hear the unit beep three times. This will take 15 to 20 seconds.

3) The unit will power off on the third beep and power light will turn red again.

4) Touch and hold the power button again as in step 2. The unit will beep three times except this time the third beep will sound like a quick double beep. As soon as you hear this double beep release the power button.

5) You will see a message onscreen telling you to "Connect a controller using USB and then press the PS button".

6) Do as the message says i.e. connect the controller and press the PS button - you are now in Safe Mode and the hard drive repair can begin.

7) Restore File System. From this point select "Restore File System" on the menu. The PS3 will attempt to repair damaged files on the hard drive. If this does not work move to step 8.

8) Rebuild Database. Enter Safe mode again as outlined and this time select "Rebuild Database". Be aware this mode will erase some information from your hard drive which is not recoverable such as photo and message information. If this fails move to step 9.

9) Restore PS3 System. Again enter Safe Mode and select "Restore PS3 System". This will restore all defaults and completely formats the drive.
Be aware this mode will erase all information from the hard drive.

If everyone of these steps fail and the PS3 is still showing symptoms of hard drive error you can be certain that the hard drive has failed and it will need to be replaced. However in a majority of cases these steps will resolve the issue.

Many thanks for viewing this Tip and I hope it has been helpful to you.

Have re3stored acer aspire netbook to factory settings but restore does not complete due to error=0x3, how can i fix?

Probably means your factory restore is no good because it is created from a image that is either on cd's or the hard drive. Most times the restore does not work unless it is put on the hard drive by the manufacturer.

Error Hard drive reports a read error

Try doing a system restore, if that does not work. Check The cable that connects motherboard to Hard drive, it's a bad cable, or a bad broken Hard drive on your hands.

Computer not working. tried restore says error stopped it from working. facebook apps won't work. says to download flash version. tried said downloaded but still won't work. try to get on some web pages...

Sounds like your hard drive has unrecoverable errors. If you have another computer available, download SeaTools for DOS and copy it to a CD. Boot the problem computer from the CD and it'll run a check to see if you harddrive's smartcheck flag has been tripped. If it has, replace hard drive and restore the factory settings using restore disk(s). If you don't have the restore disk(s), you can order them from Toshiba for your model for about $20.
If hard drive checks out w/out errors, you may be suffering from a virus that has corrupted files. The easiest and fastest approach is to restore to factory settings using the restore disk(s). If you haven't backed up your important data, download AVG with another computer, put it on a CD, install it on the problem computer, if possible, then start the problem computer in Safe Mode, then run the AVG program. It will default to batch mode when run in Safe Mode. If you have viruses, it'll get hundreds off your computer during the batch run. You may have to turn off Windows' System Restore first, to ensure the viruses don't get reloaded.
Good luck!

On screen - the hard disk file system is corrupted and will be restored playstation 3

If you are getting the corrupted drive message this means that you have corrupted data on the hard drive or there is something wrong with the hard drive. If you have tried the built in repair options and they do not work then you will need to format the hard drive with an externally with a computer. The link below will help you do this.

Have you tried reformatting your hard drive and resintalling your operating system. Alot of times with the corrupted files on your hard drive, the system restore will not work. If your recovery partition is not there then your recovery process will not work either. I would definitely try to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows and restore my files from a backup. have fun!

When trying to restore my u series 9, (ST3160022ACE) ultra ATA 160 gig hard drive I get this message: Restore was not successful. Remove any USB or Extra Hard drives taht are connected. I have no USB or...

If by "restore" you mean that you are reinstalling Windows onto the disk-drive, to restore Windows to the "as-shipped-from-the-factory" condition, then a failure of that operation can be caused by either of three conditions:

* I/O errors reading files from the CD/DVD disks (due to dust/fingerprints on the bottom of the disks),

* I/O errors writing files to the disk-drive,

* an intermittent problem with the computer's motherboard or RAM, causing "random" failures when using the computer.

So, on another computer, take the CD/DVD disks, and try to copy the entire contents (namely up to 4.7 GB) onto the 'C:' drive, watching for any "I/O errors" during the file-copy operation.
If the file-copy completes successfully, then the copy of the files can be deleted.

If no errors occur, then it's time to suspect that the disk-drive itself is failing.
Buy a new disk-drive, and disconnect the old disk-drive, and connect the new disk-drive,
and restart the "restore" operation. If the "restore" fails on the new disk-drive,
then it's time to suspect that the motherboard has a problem.

I got a hard dish read error..

A hard disk read error is normally an indication of a failing hard drive. If you can, back up any important data because you will most likely need to replace the hard drive.
