Question about Sirius ST5TK1 XM SIRIUS Radio Receiver with Car Kit

Open Question

My Sirius ST5 fails to dock properly. The dock is good, but I have concluded that the radio, rather the the pins that connect to the dock on the radio, are not properly connecting. If I slide a piece of cardboard (about 3 cm thick) between the dock and the right side bottom of the radio, the connection is possiable, and will work, but only if the shim of cardboard is placed perfectly. If the shim of cardboard is off even slightly off, I will not have any antenna connection, untill I slightly adjust it to get a connection. Its the pins. Can this be refurbished or repaired ? I'm willing to mail it off for repair. I'm also willing to hand drop it(the radio) off to a repairman.

Sounds like it could be the dock itself, but could also be the radio. Do you have other docking stations to test it out in? If it works in one dock but not the other, we know its the dock that needs to be replaced. If it does the same thing in both docks it is probably the antenna connection in the receiver.

I'm considering purchasing a Sirius Stiletto 2 Satellite Radio Receiver - just wondering if it can it be connected to my new Harmon Kardon 3600 avr or do I need to buy the Sirius connect SCH1 Home...

You will need to use the aux input from the top of the unit, or from the back of your home dock. If your receiver has a built in or add-on dock for the XM2GO line of radios, you will need to read here: http://www.digitalradiocentral.com/sirius-backstage/stiletto/108379-i-converted-xm2go-dock-stiletto.html

Your audio out pins on the dock, or on the top of the radio are loose. The BGA connections on the chips inside may also be loose, but that is less likely depending on the force of the collision.

My receiver continues to show no signal even after a refresh by xmradio. I had left it on for 24 hrs with the receiver turned off

Your antenna pin solder joint on your dock connector is bad. I've seen this problem a lot (I buy returned sirius radios, fix them, and resell them). The antenna connector is on the right of the dock connector. It has 1 n-shaped pin (connected to 2 pads on the PCB), and 1 middle pin. The middle pin's solder joint has cracked, and needs to be resoldered. You can use any soldering iron to do it, just use flux and be careful not to bridge the pins.

Bad news my friend. That model isn't supported anymore. Sirius is pretty good about replacing the radio for free and discounting the accessories. You will get one for free. The docks are reasonably priced. The boombox you might be able to get a discount for. The new docks are more designed for multiple units should this happen in the future to you again (like Stratus radios).

There isn't much to service on the radios. If the board is dead it isn't worth fixing. It's cheaper for Sirius to replace it.

"no antenna" message

it could be the wire that connects from the actual antenna and the radio. Even if it is new it might just be wrong from the factory.

Satellite radio antennas do tend to fail sometimes. In the early days of Sirius/XM they were made a lot better, but now I've had problems with them a lot more frequently. If the antenna is plugged in securely and it still shows the 'antenna' error code, you most likely need to replace your antenna. It is possible that something else along the antenna signal path is causing your problem - Sometimes the antenna connections in the dock or the receiver itself can cause the issue, but most likely it is the antenna.

S50 stopped working

Perhaps getting a new battery will do it. RadioShack has some online. You could take you chances on eBay also. Also, because you have all the accessories for the S50, you could buy a new unit on eBay that is used.
