The error may occur if there is a new version of Solution Center or a component of the scanning software has already been installed due to a software update or due to incomplete uninstallation.
Solution To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
Restart the computer and try reinstalling the software. This should resolve the issue

I had this problem and it had to do with the scan bulb head not recognising the marker. My temporary fix until the bulb is replaced is to turn the printer off, open the top (ADF and all) with the gray button on the right so that it's slightly raised and then switch the printer on. When it comes up, just close and print/scan/copy as usual. Apparently the spring in the arm warped the interior surface where the head moves and it can't line up when it's closed. Hope this helps.
