Question about Philips 27PT8302 27" TV

1 Answer

CVI connection I have connected the CVI (RGB) leads from a new 'set top box' to my Philips 27PT8302 27" TV , but when I toggle to CVI the picture is disrupted (signal appears to be present but it is horizontal lines only and no sound). I can get standard definition via the other inputs, and everything seems to work fine, but not HDTV via the CVI inputs. A friend suggested that I need to switch my TV via a menu (somewhere on the remote) to CVI, but I cannot find this anywhere. I have tried the AV/Ch button but same thing happens. Can you please help me, my email is phil.emery@deakinprime.com Thank you for considering my request. Regards, Phil

    Thanks tvtek.

You are right - although my set top box doesn't go as low as 480P, so I could even get enhanced definition. I went as low as stb could go to 520p which was almost giving a picture, while 720p and 1080i were just a mess so you are right on the money. I had moved house recently and misplaced my TV manual in the process which didn't help (deep in my storage somewhere along with many other things yet to be discovered). So it will have to be standard definition for the moment which is still an improvement over what I had though and I can stop puzzling. Thanks again.

    Regards,

    Phil

On a Philips TV the only way I know to switch to any of the inputs is by scanning using channel up or down. This model is capabable of 480P input only at the CVI/Component input. This is not a HD television. It is only a EDTV (enhanced definition) if you try and input anything iver 480P IE: 720p or 1080i, the double image and/or lines is what you will get.

With set up box audio in to tv causes high pitch sound

I am assuming this should read 'Set top box'. What kind of cable are you using?

Usually the set top box connects via a SCART lead but yours may be HDMI if it is a very new set top box.

If you are using RCA plugs, you may have cross connected the wrong cables. The RCA cables should be colour-coded. RED and WHITE are for audio, Yellow is for video.

Best advice is to switch it all off, remove all the cables you attached, and start again. The instruction manual/user guide usually has an illustration to help you identify what your set up looks like - there are usually several examples.

If the cables you need did not come with the set top box, you will need to purchase them.

When you are connecting audio leads, you should use the 'audio out' on the set top box and the 'audio in' on your TV set.

It would help to know the EXACT model number of LG screen you have and the make and EXACT model number of the set top box.

Good luck.

The picture is blue when I play a dvd. I recently connected it to a new Vizio TV. The other tv it was connected to gave us a good picture.

Check your connections for faults, also some connections on TV's are for RGB inputs, so you might have to try another connector or if you can switch the DVD's output to RGB etc.

How to connect settop box to tv with no avs

You will have 2 UHF plugs on your set top box.. One for input (aerial) and 1 for output (TV). Connect your main aerial to set top box UHF input and connect an Output UHF lead from set top box to TV. Next switch on set top box and retune tv on a spare channel until you get set top box channels (good idea to switch on menu on set top box so you know you are tuned into set top signal )

No audio

I will try to explain this clearly.

Make sure that there is sound leaving from the connections on the top box.

Check that the audio cables are connected to the associated audio input for the video at the rear of the set. Make sure that there are no other shared inputs for the same input. With shared inputs, only one can be the default reference for input.

Check the menus in both the top box and the TV set to make sure that all setups are correctly done.

It sounds like your cables are connceted ok, but what you neede to do is to be able the switch from one video mode to the other so lets go through the cable and vrc conncetions again just to make sure. From your cable set top box connect your component video (RGB) video out to your TV (RGB) video in via the (RGB)cables. From your VCR connect your composite video (yellow) out to your TV composite video in withe the composite video (yellow) cable. From your VCR (Left & Right audio out)connect your left and right audio connections (White and Red) to the Audio in of the TV (Left and Right). Whith this setup you should be able to use the TV to switch between the two A/V inputs using the remote control.
