This setting is changed by accessing the router directly. Typically you have to plug network cable into the router directly, access via web browser, and look under wireless settings.
Remember to change system ID to something you would recognize, set access password for the router, and turn on wireless security. LOG ALL passwords.

The channel issue change to 11 is a good idea as many routers compete with wireless home phones for the lower channel numbers, but suffer intermittent failure, not complete malfunction. Good on you for desiring to change to 11 (or so).

If i turn my Thomson 585v7 modem off and back on it dosent change my ip and im sure i dont have a static ip

Depending on you ISP (Internet Service Provider) it may assign you a DHCP address with a certain amount lease time. in other words when your modem requests an IP to connect to the web your ISP says 'OK here use this one for this long'. When that time limit is reached it will request a new address at which point may then get a new one or it might just re-new the current one you have.

Typically your can log into your modems web interface and find a menu that will show the current status of your modem and somewhere on that page should be a release/renew button that you can click to force the modem to let go of its current IP address and request a new one. Again it might just give you the same address you just released back to you though.

Having the same IP address is not really a bad thing.

Hope that helps clear it up.

Belkin f5d8635-4 Router connection problems

Open the working pc open internet explorer and type 192.168.1.2 in the webaddress bar. this will open your belkin router settings page. On the left choose channel and ssid. If it asks for a password leave the password box empty and just click submit. The channel is the frequency your wireless network operates on. Some channels are more stable than others, but its just trial and error until you find the most stable for your area. Change your wireless channel to a different one (any channel is fine, personally 1,11 or 8 works best for me) and click apply changes. Hope this helps.

Thomson TG 585 v7 Wireless Problem

HI
The following info. might help you fixing the above problem:

For WIRELESS CONNECTION follow these Steps:
(Note: Keep the Ethernet cable plugged in unless we set up
WIRELESS)
1: Click on Home Network
2: Wlan
Click on Configure which is the 3rd last icon on the Top
Make sure that the option-Interface Enabled is ticked.
Channel selection should be ob Manuall.
Wireless channel can be 11( thats what is in my case).
Encryption is again depending on what type of sercurity you wants. I would suggest go for WPA.
After editing the above info. do not fail to note the KEY before clicking Apply
Now just enable the WIRELESS CONNECTION on your PC /
Laptop,
Pull the SSID of your router and Click connect.
It will ask for the WEP/WPA key?
Enter the key and Click connect.
