Need to span a LVL beam 14ft. with only 2x6 joists to carry and no other loads on a interior wall< so I can open up a wall

Hi Dave:
Cars & trucks section so you may not get many answers.
I'm a retired Building Inspector so have a general idea of what you are talking about.
There are several variables that come into consideration.....
- Supported joist length
- Load on those joists
- You'll find the required beam size in the appropriate tables.
Your local Building Inspector should be able to assist you.
Cheers

How do i stop my water pipes from rattling

Secure water pipes to floor joists, install a water hammer arrester. Try securing pipes first, they should be secured at every other floor joist. If you can't get to floor joists try a water hammer arrester.

What is the strength of a joist hangar for a 2by 8? It has six nails straight in the face board and four through the joist at an angle.

If the hanger has an LUS it's 18 gauge. If it has LU it's 20 ga. for light loads, ceiling joists. For floor joists you should use HU 14 Ga.,or HUS 16 Ga. These # come out of Simpson strong -tie book. -

Hi I moved in to a recently renovated home one year ago. The kitchen had new ceramic tiles installed, with sanded grouted filled in the 5/8 inch joints. I sealed the grout after moving in as I was told...

I have a similar problem. My builder used dimensional lumber for the joists. I asked him if thet would be sufficiently stiff for tile floors, and he said yes. Then after the cracks started, I asked him why the cracks, but he said he didn't know why. It's not necessarily the subfloor but the combination of joists, subfloor, and concrete backer boards under the tile. If you can access the joists under the floor, perhaps you can reinforce them with additional joists or stiffeners before regrouting.
As for me, I have done neither so far. Wife has not complained, so I spend my spare time helping people on FixYa. Like you, I fear regrouting will just lead to recracking, and I no longer have access to the joists. :o(

By the way, your question was sorted as a Harley Davidson question. You weren't riding you bike in the kitchen, were you?

The LG washer vibrates so much that it shakes the dryer. They tell me that it's the hardwood floor, but it's still too much vibration.

If the washer is solid on the floor, and the floor or walls are vibrating, it's a weak floor. This is our biggest problem with most front loaders. Beef up your floor by installing blocking between the floor joists, install another pier, or sister the joists, check on the internet for how to sister joists. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

NEED INSTRUCTION/OWNER MANUAL

Uniden has been out of the radar detector business for some time now. I would strongly suggest getting a different radar detector instead of using this older model since newer radar detector models generally have far better performance -- especially for detecting Ka band radar.

Anyway, Uniden's web site does not list an instruction manual for this particular radar detector model. Yet, take a look at the instruction manual for the most similarly numbered product model shown in the following link:

Uniden Owners Manuals -- Radar Detectors

One of the instruction manuals in the above link should be similar enough to your radar detector so that you can figure out everything regarding your specific Uniden RD model.
