Check your needle and make sure it is not bent, needles should be replaced after about 8 hours of sewing and that they are the right size for your project. Also use the same weight of thread, do not mix ie. cotton or polyester. Then check your threading, did some thread get tangled? Or sneak out of a guide? Hope this helps.

Top thread won't pick up bobbin thread

The machine's timing may be off and you can take the machine into a repair shop or contact the manufacturer through their web site.

Singer 7462 will not pick up bobbin thread

You need to adjust the needle timing - called "timing the needle".
How do to that is usually included in the service or repair manual for your model of machine. There are various online shops where you can order this.

Also, the machine is pretty similar to the Single 7422, and there's an ehow article on how to adjust the timing on that model that you might find useful.

Top thread will not pick up bobbin thread on my model 7422

try a new needle--make sure it's the right needle for the fabric
being sewed.
try rethreading the machine top and bobbin --make sure to use
every thread guide
try a different bobbin
it's also possible that the machine could have a timing problem
and needs to be checked

here's a free manual if you need one just click on the link

Bobbin tension is too loose

"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

Singer advance 7422

My Singer 7422 seems to be jammed. When I start to make a stitch, the thread from the needle gets caught on something on the bottom and the thread goes over the bobbin.

Bobbin case turns in its place

You need to remove the needle plate and take out the bobbin case. Examine it for any rough spots, scratches or burrs. When you find them, you will need to remove them with an emery stick and then buff it with very fine steel wool. Reinstall the bobbin case and the needle plate. Put the bobbin in the machine so that it turns counter clockwise when you pull the thread. Rethread the top of the machine and change the needle. Hold the needle thread , turn the handwheel and see if the bobbin thread is picked up without snagging anyplace. If it's okay, sew away.
