Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

1 Answer

I am trying to get my parents Skyped up! They have an old'ish Emachine m5 118 g1. I skyped them and visually eveything works great both ends. Audio wise - They can hear me, but I can't hear them. Any thoughts?

My first thought would be to make sure the headset is working with another application. Go to Start-All Programs-Accessories-Entertainment-Sound Recorder and see if you can record anything.
Then check the Skype Audio settings:
- Is the correct microphone chosen?
- Turn off "Automatically adjust microphone settings" - that is most likely the culprit if the hardware is ok.
- call "echo123" from Skpye and do a test recording.

Also - I assume your headset is working.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Problems installing logitech quickcam connect to apple mac 10.4

your cam needs to be setup with skype program
also when you installed software was cam unplugged
if so uninstall through add/remove tehn unplug restart and reinstall cam plug it in only afetr being instructed or on a restart after program is installed
you choose 32 or 64 depending on what you prefer

Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on
Audio Settings
and set the Microphone and Speakers
to the computer Audio Card.
Then click on the Video Settings.
The camera if installed properly
will come up and show a picture.
Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.
please rate and please let me know if this has helped

Other people can't see me and have poor sound quality

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

Motherboard sound and old speakers

what really matters is the quality of the usb speakers. check specifications such as wattage first and find reviews if possible. however usb speakers will probably not come close to separate speakers. i'd recommend buying a cheap sound card ($20 or so). these work great overall. $20 spent on a sound card will be a better trade off than $20 spent on speakers. just use your old speakers with the new sound card and you'll have plenty of power. after this i'd recommend headphones as they work great in this case. finally moving the sound card would probably work fine, but i have doubts.

hopefully that helped
