Question about Whirlpool Dryers

1 Answer

Whirlpool Dryer Problems, LER5620KQ1 I have had this dryer for many year, and its starting to have several issue, I can deal with some like the thing still spinning when you open the door. But now, in the middle of a load drying. It just stopped, It wont start, You can NOT hear any motor running. Nothing. The other thing is, the past 2 weeks, some times the load dries some times it dont. Is this a problem with the thermostate or some thing. Infor on this and how to locate and fix would be very helpful. Im on a strict budget and cant afford to replace the dryer, but might have to if I cant fix it. Thanks, Sharon

Hi Sharon...
This may be a little long and drawn out, but I think you will find it useful.
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be a broken belt, or the belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley, or idler arm pulley or a faulty motor.
If you have to check/replace/repair your drum motor, drum seals, belt, rollers, etc.
If replacing drum seals be sure to use a good grade of weather proof cement to hold the seal/s in place.
Note: This method works for most front loading machines.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch or other electrical connections.
Remove the lint filter and the screws that hold the filter housing.
Then remove the top of the dryer.
Note: Some of the tops tilt backwards and do not have to be removed completly.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.

Same problem with my Whirlpool Dryer: Model LER4634EZ2 which stopped heating. I checked the coils that was "OK" then I checked the fuse that was "OK" I replaced the Thermal Fuse and High Limit Thermostat then after starting the dryer the heat came on ... problem solved NO.... the dryer just kept running and running until I opened the dryer door. Not going to put 70 or so $$$ into this 10 year old dryer which up until 12/15/2011 worked fine.

I have a whirlpool dryer mod #LER5620KQ1 that suddenly went dead. Any ideas on what I need to do?

First thing yall do is check for reasons why the dryer would quit. The most common being air restrictions. themobilian_2155.jpg
Your dryer has a fuse right there beside the filter housing. When the drum temp exceeds 350f rapidly this fuse melts and kills power to the door switch. themobilian_2156.jpg
If the fuse is fine then check the door switch

We have whirpool dryer model #LER5620kq1 and we replaced the heating element and thermostat. Still the dryer is taking several hours to dry the clothes. Can you tell me what else could be wrong?

Frequently there's an obstruction in the vent duct from the dryer to the outside of the house. For the dryer to heat properly, the duct must be clean and clear of lint or any other substance. Your dryer has some internal ductwork. If it gets clogged, your dryer can't dry properly. In most dryers, to get to the internal ductwork to clear the clog, you have to substantially disassemble the dryer. A quick way to check for internal clogs is to remove the lint filter and use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the duct. If it looks clogged and you can't clear it using your vacuum, contact a qualified appliance repair technician. Although this isn't a common problem, one of the thermostats that controls the temperature in your dryer may break and cause the dryer to heat poorly. If so, you need to replace it. The thermostat is usually a small, round, black device mounted to an oblong steel plate. The plate is mounted to the internal ductwork with two screws.

Burning Smell from Belt on Whirlpool Dryer

Hi, You need to check and see if the belt has slipped off of one of the pulleys. Was the idler the wheels style or a glide style?
Make sure the grooves in the belt are facing the drum and they are in the grooves of the motor pulley.
Please let me know if this helps and if I can assist you further.
