You have one option..take it down to a data recovery specialist(you may find one in our repair directory, by zip code) and cross your fingers that they can get something off that drive.

and in future, you may want to consider a remote backup for that drive.

Replace the power cable and data cable. If still no help, the drive is dead and needs to be replaced.

Why will my verbatim 250 gb external hard drive will not show up in the computor or on a media player connected the tv ?

Hard drive could have damaged file system which would require a repair. Hard drive may have failed. Just listen for a clicking sound. If you hear it, your drive is bad.

My friend dropped my Hard Drive and it wont work any more. What do I do?

Hard drives are easily damaged by dropping them onto the floor. There is nothing you can do to fix this hard drive.
Retrieving data from damaged hard disk is possible. There are companies that can remove the disk platters from the damaged hard drive and with special equipment may be able to recover your data, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services. The reason for this high cost, they dismantle and remove the platters in the hard drive in a clean room environment and set up the platters up in jig/drive to retrieve/copy the data.

HELP MY HARD DRIVE HAS GONE!

Ok to understand this , you dropped a 1 TB hard-drive external hard drive on the floor? Well considering that it is a external, the cases in most externals are meant to take a beating as well as the hard-drive it self. There is two possiblities I can think of, what could of happened. When the Hard-Drive hit the floor, it could of is disconnected the connection on the hard-drive itself inside the casing, which you will have to pop it open and reseat it. Or the hardrive, arm inside the hard-drive it self snapped or is misplaced, which is unrepairable. Open up the casing and looking for the hardrive it self. Towards the back of the hard-drive is where the connection of th drive is, it is eather sata or orginal set up with his pins based. Take the connection off and put it back on and see if that works, if it didnt, best advise would be is take in in and have the drive tested, see if its still operable.

My hard drive was knocked of the table and landed on carpet

Computers do not like being dropped especially when it is powered up and running. It can do a heaps of damage.
If the hard drive in the computer makes a clicking sound and it won't boot up and/or an error message says it cannot find the hard disk or operating system, then the hard disk is damaged beyound repair.
With luck if the hard disk is only damaged then you can replace the hard drive and install Windows on the new hard drive with the device drivers and your programs. Your data on the old hard drive is gone unless you backed up your data onto CD, flash drive etc.

warrenty will be void if you open the casing
but warrenty for hdd will remain .. so if under warrenty get it replaced, as it is, if data required the warrenty should not be concidered and data recovered, probably the hard drive may not have got damaged , so dont get fooled if some one says data recovery . if you cannot do it hire an expert guru for data recovery.

Lightly Dropped Seagate 100GB External Hard Drive

Unfortunately, this probably means the read/write heads were jarred and can no longer function properly. That's usually fixable, but it's a very expensive fix because the parts are inside the hard drive and the data surfaces are very delicate... Most people are better off simply replacing the hard drive unless the data is absolutely vital.
