SOURCE: Brown marks on clothes

This is a pretty common problem with these Frigidaire dryers. Crice hit it right on the head when he said the clothing is getting stuck between the guides and drum. The upper and lower felt guides need to be changed. This is not one of the easiest jobs. The top and front panel have to come off and the guides are glued on with high temp. adhiesive. The old guides have to be scraped off. Part numbers for the upper and lower guides are 5303937139 -(upper) 5303283286 -(lower). Catriver...post back

SOURCE: Dryer leaving brown streaks on clothes

the brown streaks and holes will be when they get stuck the dryer is still turning and it will be friction marks if it is getting stuck between the inner and outer drums than check to see if there is any wobble in the inner drum by opening the door and placing your hand at the top of the outer rim of the panel and place your fingers to the top of the inner drum pull your fingers towards your hand if there is any movement than the bearings are gone which will need replacing once done then this will eliminate the problem if there is no movement check to see if there is a seal missing from between the inner and outer drum u can find this out by checking with your fingers than calling the manufacturer to see if there is supposed to be one there

SOURCE: brown stains in the drum of my whirlpool dryer

Apparently a common problem with 4-5 year old Kenmore and Whirlpool dryers. The paint is rubbed off the back panel by the felt seal attached to the rotating drum. The bare metal gets rusty from the damp clothes. The rust is rubbed off by the felt seal. The entire felt seal will turn brown. The stains are transfered to the clothes. The rust stains can generally be removed by additional cleaning.
I'm going to replace the felt seal on the drum, clean the rust off the back panel and see how long it lasts. Seal w/ adhesive is $30-40.
Some have suggested painting the back panel, but i don't think fresh paint is going to last long. The original paint was probably electrostatically applied and maybe baked on.

SOURCE: Clothing getting caught on lint

Probably has extra space between drum because the front felt guides on the drum have worn. This can be accessed by removing the front panel.

My dryer is leaving brown stains on my clothes. I think that the drum needs to be aligned. Is this an easy task?

If your dryer is leaving small brown streaks on your clothes, then your drum seals need to be replaced. It is not a hard task if you know what youre doing. It is a complicated one for a beginner because you have to take your whole dryer apart to replace the seals

I would suggest replacing the front drum bearing. Sounds like the gap is now excessive, obviously allowing clothes to get caught up in there. Drum must be removed from the dryer to do this.
Good luck, hope this helps.

Why is my clothes dryer leaving brown marks on my clothes

Probably you need to replace the front drum bearing. The gap between the front lip of the drum, and the bearing, is too large, allowing the clothes to get caught in there and get dirty. Hope this helps you.

I need to replace the drum seal due to brown stains on clothes.

When the front door glide system on the fex series dryers wears out the drum isn't held in place properly, there is enough of a gap between the bottom of the drum and the front panel for clothing to get in. As the drum rolls and the item moves to the top it becomes pinched as the gap closes leaving stains and sometimes damaged clothing.
If this is what you are talking about, Make sure it is unplugged then remove the slanted panel above the washer lid. remove the control panel (4 screws) it can be unplugged (2 plugs on left side) and laid aside (rubber line can be removed and slid out of plastic clamp.
when the control panel is removed you will find two screws holding the bottom of the front panel, these have to be removed.
there are 4 screws along the upper edge of the front panel that have to come out and then the front will come off.
Reassembly is difficult with this machine (I remove the dryer door if I'm working alone) so try to do the job when you have help.
Good Luck

Dryer is leaving brown streaks on cotton clothes

The 417 dryers have two seals on the front panel, the top seal has drum glides which wear down over time. Because the drum rests on those glides, when it wears down it leaves a gap between the drum and the seal, clothes will drag in that gap and come out with rust and/or seal adhesive stains. Try replacing the top and lower seals, this works most of the time...sometimes though, if left unattended long enough, the lack of support from the front glides causes too much strain on the rear drum bearing, and even after replacing the seals clothes may still catch, although the brown spotting will stop for awhile. You can feel the gap if you run your hand along the inside of the drum at the seal point.

GE dryer, black grease stain on cloth

I have the same problem, I haven't resolved it but it seems to be due to the drum of the dryer being able to move more than it's supposed to and things getting caught in between the drum and whatever it sits in, at the front of the dryer. I have found things caught in there before and when I've pulled them out they had a brown/yellow grease stain on them. Other times something in the dryer will have this same stain - although no longer caught it seems it must have been caught at some point then became free again, with the stain. I'm thinking something is loose or if the drum is supported at the back by a bearing of some sort, this bearing may be worn down and the drum isn't sitting right.
