Are you trying to set up the router.
You can do it manually without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem

Lost my installer cd for wrt160n v3

Many newer routers don't actually require an install CD to work.

Connect the ISP modem to the main network port. Now connect the computer to any other port. That's it. All done

This just refreshes your IP. In PC go to Start > Search (run in XP) and type cmd ENTER. In the command prompt type ipconfig /release ENTER. Then type ipconfig /renew ENTER.

Are you trying to run the CD that comes with the router?
I think you can try to setup your router manually instead of running CD. WRT160N router has issues with the firmware so I will suggest you to upgrade the firmware of WRT160n router first.

Will not detect moden

There are many options that can be setup on a router and should be setup. I believe the address for a linksys is 192.168.1.0. Put that in the address line of IE and it should ask for a username password. I believe that is admin for the user id and either a blank password or the word password. Once inside you should change the password at least and probably encrypt your connections. You don't have to but your network has security issues if you don't. You will have to pick a pass phrase or key for the encryption that you will have to put into you wireless PC also. It's not that hard, read the manual.

I have a desktop and a laptop (new for xmas) and I want to set up the laptop to the wireless-N Router Model WRT160N. I am set up with internet through a bundle system through our television. Do I plug the...

first a couple of things.
if your router has wireless support your laptop (if new) should have a wireless adapter built in, so basically your destop computer can be wirely plugged into the router and your laptop shoud "connect wirelessly" to your adapter
so this is how your set up should look like

desktop
--cable-- = - cablemodem - = linksys router = ----- wire----- desktop

laptop
--cable-- = - cablemodem - = linksys router = ))wireless))) laptop

you need read up a bit, here are some links that will have info you need

manual for wireless configuration (select the proper revision for your router and check user manual)

configure wireless network for vista

read up and if you have any questions post back.

hope that helps.

On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?

Do this setup.

Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.

Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.

Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.

You should be able to access the internet.
