If ypu are installing over an XP ver. of the operating system try backing up your data and doing a clean install. You may have to first format the HD, but if you really want/or need Vista, for older hardware this is often the only answer.

Goto Microsoft update webpage and check for updates. There is probably an update needed to correct a problem with vista. It's too new yet and still has many issues. Once it works it works good, but it has issues. I've reverted my system to XP pro due to these other issues with hardware compatibility.

Error code 8000ffff when updating vista SP1

To resolve Windows Update error 8000FFFF, try the following steps:

1) Launch REGEDIT

2) Go into HKLM\COMPONENTS, and check if these three values exist under the COMPONENTS key:

PendingXmldentifier
NextQueueEntryIndex
AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving

3) Providing they do exist, back up the Components key, then delete the three above values.
4) Restart the computer, and Windows Update should now be working fine.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions

I use a HP Pavilion dv6000 with Vista SP1. When I try to install the Vista SP2 I get every time the erro code 800B0100. I never found a solution to that

the most common cause of this is your firewall - you need to disable it whilst installing the update.
depending on the security software you have installed the options are different.
If you are using Windows Firewall: start, settings, control panel Security Center - click on firewall and set to off.
Important - remember to turn it back on afterwards.
If using 3rd party software turn the whole thing off whilst installing the update.
Please let me know if this works for you.

Vista is slow

The slowness of Vista depends on the components that you have for the computer. Did you buy your computer with Win Vista installed? If you upgraded your computer from XP to Vista, you have to make sure that it is covered by the system requirements of Vista.

If you have a brand new computer with Vista installed in it, then there could be a little glitch on the program. I've used different kinds of Vista (Home Premium, Vista Business and Vista Ultimate) but none of them worked slow. If that's a brand new computer, I would suggest to contact the manufacturer or the reseller.

Have a great day!
