Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I can't get the CD -ROM to the set up. I put it in the CD drive and nothing happens. I can hear it turning. Is there something else I can do to get to the set up. I had previously set up the program but it didn't work. So I uninstalled and are trying to reinstall. Any advice?

Hi. does your computer were able to detect the CD ROM? If you clicked My Computer did you see your CD rom drive there together with your harddrive? Try this troublshooting steps:

  1. Click Start then click All Programs.
  2. Click Accessories, and then click Run.
  3. Type regedit, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  4. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  5. In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  7. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  8. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
  9. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  10. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  11. Exit Registry Editor.
  12. Restart the computer.

one idea is to check and make sure they are all cds and some not dvd or blue ray. and verify that your rom drive is cd/dvd,also try to load the cd and open my computer and see if it even acknowledges that there is a disk in it.if so just double click te icon for the rom drive and run the cd that way.

I put the cd rom into the drive and nothing happens. I go to click on the icon under my computer and it causes the window not to respond.

Confirm that the CD drive is not a CD-ROM dive and the CD you are trying to open is is not a DVD. CD-ROM drive wil not open a DVD ROM and in some cases will cause the system to stop responding if youtry to run it.

When you put a cd into the drive it whirrs like it is doing something but then it quits and nothing happens, any ideas.

Not knowing the model of cd rom you are talking about, it may be possible that it needs cleaning or even the laser is bad and will need replacement.

CD changer will not play reads "player error" .

Most new car-stereo's don't have an "oldschool" CD-drive, but really a CD-ROM drive; meaning that they won't (properly) read and/or play copy-protected CDs.

Most CD protections are specially designed not to work in CD-ROM drives to prevent copying. As a side-effect most of those protected CDs won't work in car-stereo's.

Try a CD without copy-protection (like an homemade audio CD using burning software on your computer) and see it that works ?

In case that doesn't work either, your car's CD-drive is probably broken ...

Unable to read some of the DVDs......

It's possible that the drive has died. CD and DVD drives are notorious for short lives but then I've seen some last 5 years. The lens could be dirty, just a small piece of lint is enough to cause hassles. Try using a Lens cleaner, available from all good audio shops. Some machines don't like +R disks and a firmware upgrade is needed. I've done many Liteon Drives with terrific results but if the manufacturer hasn't put one out then you're lost. It's possible you've used the wrong upgrade to fix your problem. With the prices of drives today it's sometimes cheaper to replace it. Believe me they can die quickly, my record is a week from brand new to unuseable and that was a Sony. BMW
