RCA Stav-3880 turn stereo on goes to full volumn

Take the batteries out of the remote control, then apply a piece of black tape over the IR sensor, Unplug the power, wait a few minutes, now power the unit back up, does the unit still have the same volume high symptom? If so, remove the tape and see if the unit responds to any other commands(other than volume) from the front panel. If it responds to the panel controls, the processor is most likely good. very seldom is the IR transistor bad, if it is no input command will work.

My sansung remote quite working, replacement universal remote was programed to the tv but the tv will still not respond. What's next?

You likely don't need a new remote. Certainly not a Universal.

Samsung remotes for LED / LCD TVs are generally RF, not IR.
Most Universal remotes do not generate RF signals, so disregard advice about codes for Universals.

Try this:

First, fresh batteries, and clean battery contacts if needed.

Then, Try Pairing procedure:
  1. TV off
  2. Bring remote within 3 feet of TV
  3. Push Pairing button (Paper Clip or other pointed object in button hole)
  4. Turn on TV
  5. Should be paired. Try remote channel or other buttons.
  6. If not, try 2 more times.
  7. If still not working, push RESET button first and repeat Pairing.

Please rate if Helpful.

Good Luck !!

Codes won't work on my phillips magnavox tv

First what is the age of the remote relative to the TV? The codes are limited to those for devices released about 6 months before the remote was programmed. If this is the problem, then you may need a newer universal remote.

Next is the TV responding to any remote or button press? It's possible that the IR receiver has failed or the entire board has failed in the TV. (If the buttons work, it's just the IR receiver if the unit doesn't respond to any button presses.) For parts, try shopjimmy.com or partstore.com. You want parts that match the ones in the TV.

You can check if the remote works with a cell phone camera. Take a picture of the IR beam end of the remote when someone else presses the button. When you look at the resulting picture there will be light at the end of the remote.

I hope this helps.

My rca RT2870 turns itself on and the remote cannot be used either. I have to get up and walk over and manually turn it offand before I get back over to my bed it comes on again by itself. It did this 5...

Hello,
The problem could be from the remote control, check if the RCA theater system do function by pressing the button on it , if this responds meaning that your remote control is faulty.
Defective RCA theater remotes can be repaired. A remote control that does not respond well or that does not work at all probably has worn or defective component parts. Before investing in a replacement remote controller, first test the RCA theater unit to determine if it is not working properl4y. If all systems are in order, consider troubleshooting the remote control with some simple household tools and materials.

Things You'll Need:
Mild soap
Cloth towel
Pencil eraser
Fiberglass brush
Cotton balls
Phillips screwdriver
Aluminum foil (silver and copper)
Epoxy
Step 1
Check to see if the remote is not operating properly because of a bad theater. Press the power button on the RCA theater unit to make sure that the unit itself is working. Put in a dvd plate, press play on the RCA theater unit; if the dvd is playing, there are no problems with the unit. Press the stop button from the remote control. If the RCA theater does not respond, then the remote may be bad.

Step 2
Narrow down the problem using an infrared radiation (IR) detector. The IR may have been switched off, causing interference and range problems between the VCR and its remote. Hit the RCA theater menu button on the unit and search for the IR signal sub-menu. Confer with the remote owner's manual to get the specific codes on resetting the IR signal or simply reset the IR detector back to its factory setting.

Step 3
Clean or replace batteries. Old, corroded or dead batteries can be the cause of the remote malfunctioning. If batteries look corroded, clean off chemical deposits with a soft brush and remove debris with a lint-free cloth. Polish the ends of the batteries (the contacts) with a fiberglass brush or pencil eraser. If batteries appear to be dead, replace with new ones, positioning them in the correct order as identified in the battery compartment.

Step 4
Clean out the battery compartment. Sometimes, it may not be the batteries causing the remote to malfunction, as gunk and dirt can accumulate in the battery compartment and cause the buttons to not respond to pressure. Remove stubborn crud inside the battery panel with a pencil eraser.

Step 5
Disassemble the remote control's front panel with a small Phillips screwdriver. Use a minimal amount of water and mild detergent to wipe away grime and sugar deposits that may have formed around the rubber membrane keypad, circuit board and plastic case (use caution to not directly expose circuit board to liquids). Use a cotton ball to wipe down with isopropyl alcohol. Allow remote's contents to dry thoroughly before replacing components.

Step 6
Correct a worn keypad on remote. According to Shaw Direct, "if you can see the rubber through the conductive material after cleaning, the pad is likely worn to the point of being non-functional." Disassemble the front cover of the remote, exposing the keys and its worn rubber keypad. Use epoxy to glue the aluminum or silver foil onto the control's rubber surface--make sure that you have cut out enough holes for the keys to fit over the foil before gluing. Replace front cover. Consider investing in a remote control keypad repair kit for seriously damaged rubber keypads.
Hope this help

Why does my TV not respond to any remote, not even the original remote control. I'm unable to turn on or off or change channels. (Proview 3200)

It can be IR receiver is not working or the CPU is getting the signal from IR board but not processing the signal properly, you can try new IR receiver board.

The remote for my Panasonic HT520 doesn't respond. When the CD-DVD button on the remote is pressed the lights come on on the remote, but still nothing from the player. The player works fine on it's own,...

Ok let me verify; you have an HT-520 home theatre with integrated DVD player. When you press the DVD input you can't control certain aspects of the DVD player or the DVD player does not respond at all?

Does the DVD respond at all if you put the remote into another mode (should be called Amp or Receiver)? Can your remote be programmed for different devices and mabe it was programmed to control a different DVD player?

I will search the unit in my knowledge base and let you know some exact steps to try. If you could clarify some of thoes details that would be wonderful.

Thanks,

Kevin

Unit does not respond to remote control

I had this same problem with the Onkyo TX-SR706 this evening, and finally found the solution in the "Controlling Other Components" section of the manual: Resetting the remote control did the trick. (P.S. This problem started after I spent many hours today trying to get my new Acer laptop equipped with a Hauppauge TV tuner stick to correctly display its image on my Samsung HDTV, with sound. I tried connecting the laptop via HDMI first to the Onkyo receiver and then directly to the TV, neither of which worked as it should. I assume that somehow, in all those hours of much plugging and unplugging and fiddling around, I screwed up the remote sensor -- thank goodness I eventually found the "Resetting the Remote Controller" solution a little while ago -- I was approaching the point of ripping everything apart and throwing it out the window!)

IR Reliability--Intermittent

The Kenwood VR-510 does indeed respond to IR remotes. I now use a Logitech Harmony H659 which is IR only.
Your issue is a problem with the VR-510, actualy the whole series had a problem with cold solder joints on an assembly behind the front panel. Fix that and fix the problem. It frustrated me for 5 yrs.
Go here for the fix:
This site has the fix well documented: http://resnet.uoregon.edu/~gurney_j/kenwoodrepair/.
All is working great now!
