DC Jack diagnosis:
1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

If the power supply does not run the laptop without the battery, then the problem is the jack in the laptop, over time the plug breaks free of the motherboard causing intermittent operation or no power. If the power supply runs the laptop without the battery, it is the charging circuits on the motherboard that is the issue.

Fujitsu siemens scaleo 600 desktop just keeps shutting down any ideas

1) Bad Power Supply. Power Supply has a weak voltage power rail.

Electrolytic Capacitors are breaking down inside the Power Supply.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switched-mode_power_supply

The capacitors build up a charge long enough to work briefly, then break down.

2) Electrolytic Capacitors on the motherboard are breaking down. Specifically the one's used in the motherboard Voltage Regulator Circuit.

A) http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/616

B) Visually identifying bad capacitors,

C) Video showing what happens with bad capacitors (Electrolytic) in the motherboard Voltage Regulator Circuit (Starts at 0:04)

Hi: We have a Dell Latitude D620. The battery is low and blinking. When connecting the power supply, it won't take the charge, keeping blinking. Tried with a different power supply; same problem. So...

Yes you'll need to replace the motherboard if the laptop won't turn on using the power supply (ac adapter) you can either try a known good power supply, but if it still does the same thing you'll need to replace motherboard.
And for the battery you can check it there's a button on that battery to check if it still works good or simply access BIOS setup that will be on f2 check on the battery life it will say if you need to replace it too.

If you have a warranty on the computer that's good.
You can get the parts replacement for free!

Hope this helps!

My computer will not load up. I turn on the power and am faced with a blank black screen. Computer is fully charged.

Try pulling the battery and mains power out for a little while. Then plus just the mains power in (no battery) and see if it will come on. If there are no signs of life (no solid lights indicating it's working) test the power supply with a voltmeter as your power supply might be dead and as a result the battery is not charging.
It is common for DC power jacks on laptops to break. Check where the power cable goes into the compter to make sure it's not loose or broken. If so, the jack will need to be either re-soldered to the board or replaced.

Computer does start up

Does it not seem to get power? This is a common issue with the S149. If you have a charged extra battery or one from a similar Toshiba laptop like the S311 you can see if it starts with a charged battery. If it does the problem is likely the soldered connection on the motherboard for the power cord. This commonly breaks and causes the laptop to not run off the power cord and not charge the battery, but it will run from a charged battery. If this is the case you will need to resolder the power connector to the motherboard. The laptop must be disassembled to make the repair. If you do not have the tools, knowledge or experience to do this or the solder job then you will need to locate a technician that can.

Fitted new power socket to laptop but still now power?

Check you adapter for voltage at the connector you insert into the laptop. Just because you see a lit LED on the adapter, doesn'tmean you have output at the connecter, there could be a break in the wire, typically at the strain relief molded area at the connector.

Power issues on HP DV1000

It is possible you have two dud batteries. Recharageable batteries have a limited life, they have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles.
With the battery removed and only the power supply connected and the laptop powered up, when you touch the connector on the laptop and the laptop does not shut down then the laptop connector is OK.

If you can verify your new battery is OK the the fault could be the power supply adapter, if may not produce enought current to run and charge the battery. Try charging the battery overnight by turning off the laptop and leaving on the mains t charge. Borrow a mains adapter and test it on your computer.

You can also check the BIOS setting for power management, ie. hibernate, low power shut down etc.

My Acer travelmate only works from battery not mains

Most likely the power plug has come loose off the motherboard. Unless you are extremely handy with a soldering and desoldering iron, I recommend taking it to a professional to do it because one wrong move can destroy the whole motherboard.

Won't Charge

Common fix for this problem is a simple Power Management Unit (PMU) reset. This will basically re-sync the battery "brain" to the computer so they when when to charge and when to stop. To do this, simply turn your computer off, remove battery and power cord and hold the power button down for 7-15 seconds. Then you MUST wait 15 seconds after pressing the button before applying power or inserting battery. 75% chance this will fix your problem. If Not, Replace Adapter/Charger. They have a microchip in them that can go bad that senses when to send more current to charge battery. Apple motherboards are generally better built so I'm not suspecting that at this moment. Let me know what you find out.
