Question about Whirlpool GSC9455 Top Load Washer

2 Answers

Smells I can do a load of laundry and AS SOON as I go down to put it in the dryer the clothes smell like they have been sitting there for days. We got this washer when we bought the house a year ago and we were told that it was about 5 years old. It is a whirlpool but i am not sure what the model # is. It sounds like there is still water in the washer when I mess with the thing in the middle. I was thinking maybe a drainage problem and when I looked for the tube that I suspect is the drainage tube. It comes out of the washer and goes up the wall into another pipe... Is that how it is supposed to be? What could be causeing the "sewage" smell in my washer???

Means that the DRAIN MOTOR PUMP not working properly and still water stays inside machine giving you that smell , if your handy or know someone that is , you need to open the panel of washer and look for a small motor at the bottom with 2 hoses connected to it , take it out clean it for any debri that could be stuck inside the impellers ,put it back and try again , have handy some rags and a pail , hope this helps & please rate , thanks AJ

Smells and odors

I have the secret to all your cleaning problems and smells including mold and mildew. It is so awesome I just have to share it with you. I am a mechanic so I get extremely dirty and greasy every day. I dont like to spend money buying new clothes unless they are worn out from wear, not stains. I came up with a recipe that gets my greasy laundry CLEAN. If you add a cup of vinegar and a handfull of rock salt to your laundry, especially whites, you will be amazed. for mold and mildew odor, put 1/4 cup of vinegar, 1 tblspn rock salt, and 2 tblspns of bleach in a standard size spray bottle and fill it up with water. spray directly on the area lightly and let dry. if you have colorfast areas, omit the bleach and double the vinegar. don't worry, the vinegar smell will dissapate soon. Vinegar gets rid of cat urine and all animall odors too.

Why do my clothes have horrible smell

Front loader? Welcome to our hell.

Seriously though - it's not that bad. You need to have a different mindset with these machines. First, throw away your old detergent. You've GOT to use the type with the HE logo on it. Really. There is a difference.

Wipe out any standing water in the gasket between the drum and door opening after the last load of the day.

Leave the door open slightly to allow air to flow around between washes.

Open the other doors for detergent, bleach, etc. between laundry days.

Don't use liquid fabric softener. Use dryer sheets instead.

Run a small, empty load with hot water and bleach ONLY. No clothes, as your last load for the days that you do laundry.

Use a product like Affresh, once or twice to rid the washer of existing smells. You can use Affresh any time the smells start coming back - and follow the suggestions above.

Smelly towels

Be sure your using HE Laundry Detergent, only use the recommended amount on the bottle, I use the liquid, the less the better, I use the least amount.....To much soap left in clothes can cause mildew and stinky smell, also I recommend using a fabric softner, it helps to remove the soap....and smells good....also use a good washer cleaner, I use Affresh, they come in tablets, go to www.affresh.com and put in you zipcode to find where you can purchase it in you area......make sure after a load is finished that it doesn't sit in the tub with the lid down for long, removing the laundry promptly will also help with stinky laundry........use the Affresh at least once a month.......hope this helps you

My clothes smell like mildew

Run a load of wash water with chlorine bleach ***Without adding clothes***. This will kill any spores in the system. Try to remove laundry as soon as it is finished and don't let it sit in the washer overnight. If possible, keep the door open when not in use.

My dryer smells like sulfur . The clothes smell

Run a couple of hot washes with no clothes in the machine

Before you do dissolve some Soda Crystals in 2 liters of hot water and put them into the machine by hand.

Your machine smells because new powders wash at lower settings and do not contain bleaches and soda to kill off the grease which is washed off the clothes

Laundry stinks

I find that the dryer does not dry the clothes enough. The washer can take a lot of laundry at one time but the dryer is not able to handle the load. The stink usually comes from a bit of moisture left in the the clothes, especially the towels. Break down your dryer loads or dry them on a timed cycle for a longer time.

Our Kenmore HE3 front loading dryer gives off a fuel smell inside

When I had the back off of the dryer I did notice one thing that looked a little unusual. The vent
pipe, which the flame of the burner travels through, ( running from the burner to the back of the
dryer ) was painted, inside and out. Some of the paint was cracked and slightly bubbled, as though
it was melting from heat, and there actually was a small pile of soot laying there. I wiped off as much
of the paint as I could with a rag, and vacuumed it out, and put the dryer back together and ran it.
After running the dryer for a while we no longer have the smell. I don't really know if that was the problem
or not, but at least the smell is gone.
