Question about Porter Cable C2002 150 Psi 6 Gal Compressor

2 Answers

I have had this problem intermittently - often it occurs if I left the compressor pressurized overnight (i.e. forgot to drain it.) In the morning the pressure has gone down - I can turn it back on and pressure builds fine, however I hear a hissing sound coming from inside the plastic housing. Is there some sort of pressure relief valve that needs to be reset? If so how do I reset it?

There is a check valve between the pump and the tank, normally it is nearer the tank, if this isnt sealing properly, you will hear a leak coming from the plastic cover(pressure switch), drain the tank, locate the check valve, remove the check valve (plasticor rubber valve with a light spring) clean it up and replace, pressurise and you should be all good again, if it doesnt, you may need a new check valve, (quite cheap)

There is only one relief valve and it is on the outside. The valve is set to open if pressure builds past 160psi. You may be having trouble with the pressure regulator (large knob with high/low arrow). This regulator will leak at times. You can determing if it is leaking by unplugging /shutting off the compressor when you hear the leak. If the leak stops as you shut it off then most likely due to discharge tube seal at the head of the pump. If you continue to hear leak after shut off turn pressure knob counter clockwise all the way out. If you hear a change in the amount of leak or stops then pressure valve is problem. Bought new battery. morning vuka don't want to start. mornings I had to jump start it 0km still refuse to start on its own

Probably something draining the battery overnight. Interior light left on? The regulator in the alternator could be bad and keeping the ignition energized draining the battery. If your jump start it drive to work get off work and it starts after 8-9 hrs you have a system voltage leak some where. If nothing is left on overnight have the voltage regulator tested in the alternator.

Why is my door tailgate light constantly on my puma ..& would this be the problem its not starting on a morning

Tailgate may not be shutting properly, and yes-- a light left on will drain the battery overnight. Try removing the dome light bulb or the fuse so can will not drain battery.

Intermittent ac problem

Assuming the Dealer used a Vacuum pump on the system when they drained it, the moisture should be out of it. There are 2 pressure switches which can be switched and the unit does not have to be discharged to do this. I have had problems more with the Low pressure switch than any High pressure one. The spring or diaphragm gets weak and it may disconnect power to the compressor randomly.
Now another thing you said was when driving home you have more problems. If you are driving into the Sun some A/C units behave differently. Some units have a Solar sensor which aids A/C output by taking into account the Solar radiation penetrating the car interior. This loosely follows the logic that shade and Sunshine are not equal measures of temperature and that Fabric surface temperature can vary regardless of the air temperature depending on if the Sun is beating down on it.
Not all vehicles have this system. But it is a factor to bring up.

Cranks and starts are two different things.
If it cranks but won't start it could be loosing fuel pressure overnight.
If it won't crank in the morning, you could have a bad cell in the battery or something draining the battery overnight. Such as the interior lights coming on and off.
The light problem could be the door ajar sensor in the door latch.

What causes intermittent A/C on a 2000 Nissan Altima 4 cyl?

Your A/C is low on freon when you are A/C mode the compressor goes on and off with the low pressure switch. Auto parts stores carry recharge kits for most all cars/trucks. follow instructions on can for charging

Battery goes flat over night

You'll need to have someone check for a battery drain.
Something in the car is using electricity when the key is off, or the battery has an internal short and is draining itself.
If you disconnect the battery overnight and it is still dead in the morning, you need a new battery.

Ridgid Compressor ol50135 twin tanks

You need to check if the compressor has frozen up.

LIKELY the check valve has failed or has contaamination under the seat. Often these valves are right where the compressor line goes into the tank. The unit will not hold pressure since the compression relief will vent at shutdown.

Check oil level in crankcase.

This should be done with everything turned off and the door closed. with negative battery disconnected. place 12 v test light between the battery terminal and the cable end.(on neg. side) if the light lites up there is a drain. remove one fuse at a time until u see the lite go out. that is the sytem the drain is on. usually glove box light or trunk light or visor light left on or stuck on.

Should air compressor tanks be drained daily and if so why should they not be left under pressure from day to day? Will the air under pressure in the tank cause additional water vapor to accumulate?

No additional moisture will accumulate over time. Some existing moisture may condense as the unit cools down, though. If you drain off the water at the end of the day, I see no good reason to completely drain the air.
