    hi paul,

    here is the link:

i have also added more info to the original problem thread here:

including an answer to your question: does the problem also occur on the tv menu displays. the answer is yes it does.

btw, is this the right way to reply to you? its not very clear how to respond to you on this site.

I will contact Mitsu as you say and try to get it fixed. I saw on a website that they have extended the warranty on the light engines for the 73" version of my model so I will try that angle too. Is this something I could do myself? Is there somewhere to buy the part? I have the service manual for my model and there are instructions on how to replace the light engine in the manual. I haven't been through the whole process in detail to see what's involved though.

Ok i've contacted them and they want a diagnosis and estimate from an authorized mitsu dealer which is something I hadn't gotten yet. I'd had a serviceman look at the video you saw (because it happens spuriously) and they also said it is probably the light engine. Is there anything about the problem that you suggest that I specifically point out to the serviceman? Mitsu want me to fax that all in to them. They've already asked me whether I have an extended warranty with Mitsu or the dealer (DirectBuy) and I said no -- but they didn't stop there and are still asking for the diagnosis etc. They may just "review" that all and deny me because it out of warranty anyway but then I will just have to dig my heels in. After all they have extended the light engine warranty on the 73" model of the same line of TVs.

I have the exact same issue pop up 2 weeks ago on my WD-62727. It seems to get worse when the TV warms up. Have you gotten a diagnosis of the problem?

BTW: Did you also experience problems with built-in PVR? Mine has problem playback some time where it say corrupt data or sometimes the recording did not complete.

I tried but I am told the video is no longer available.

Can you send a picture to

  • Paul Buscema May 27, 2008

Thanks for the video info. You have a bad light engine. This is the main optical block and it is a costly repair. I would try to con tact Mitsubishi and see if a local servicer can fix this in an extended warranty program. Mitsubishi's consumer affairs number is 800.332.2119. The more you complain the better your chances of getting this fixed with limited cost to you.

Even if you can, I don't recommend installing it yourself. Complain to Mitsubishi and be persistent. Over time, your efforts will pay off.

WD 73835 has ghosting images during dark or red scenes

Make sure your contrast isn't set too high. Most ghosting is caused by either contrast, brightness or tint issues. Try adjusting these settings. Also check if there is a Dynamic contrast setting for your TV as well as this can cause ghosting also.

My printer is leaving faint marks of other words down the side of the page...any way to fix that?

Yes, It sounds like a ghosting issue. Several components can cause a ghosting issue. The distance between the first occurance(the one on purpose) and the second occurance(ghost image) can determine the part of the machine causing the image problem

Have Mits HDTV have horizontal lines running across screen, whats the problem? After it warms up, seems to lessen but does not go away.

Hi if its a Dlp it will be an issue with the dmd This is how the dmd works: Basically the dmd is a chip that carries 2 million pixels that create the image and colors .When its bad it will cause pixilation, color discoloration or stripes. If its an Lcd it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. This is how your tv works: So basically the 3 Lcd chips that create the colors and image is going bad and thats why you get that color discoloration.Contact Mitsu or look for your light engine online.God bless you and your house!
