Asus x83v wont turn on at all

Try another AC outlet, Try another Cord/charger with the EXACT same power specs. If the AC jack has been damaged due to pulling on the AC cord, you may have to replace the AC jack. Most likely, there is no in-line fuse in a laptop.

Hp pavillion 9700 had pop spilled on it and need to replace motherboard, is that all I need to replace or do other elements need to be replaced as well. thanks

It depends on how much "pop" you spilled on it. If it wasn't much you might be able to just repair the liquid damage. I would suggest you have a local laptop tech check it out. The key to getting your machine fixed on the cheap is finding a tech that specializes in laptop repair.

DV9700 motherboards aren't cheap btw and if you're not familiar with fixing laptops I wouldn't recommend you trying to swap a motherboard out, it's not for the average user.

I have a motherboard...asus m2n68-la from a compact computer. What replacement can i use it fried out..I believe it is 2 socket dual processor 3400.

The Asus board you listed is using a socket type AM2.You should be able to go to, or any other site where you would buy PC parts and look for a socket AM2 board. Word of warning though...because of the amount of devices that will be different, it is likely that you will have to reinstall Windows once you replace the board.

Processor or motherboard replacements

you need to compare the specs closely. if they are suggesting that the cpu's are direct upgrades for that laptop i'm not in a position to refute it. but read the specs

Bios password ibm thinkpad g40

Sounds like you tried this, but it's worth a shot again. Remove the CMOS battery on the motherboard and let the laptop sit for an hour, then replace the battery with a new one.

If the only real issue is changing the time and date, you can do this in Windows and it will reset the BIOS clock, too, of course.

If the problem is that the time and date keep reseting, you either have a low CMOS battery or a short on the motherboard that is resetting it.

If all else fails, you might need to flash the BIOS from a floppy disk with the latest BIOS version for your machine to reset it and go from there.

PS: BIOS reset problems on laptops are sometimes due to power problems caused by battery packs going bad; check your battery pack, too, and see if it is working okay.

Good luck...
