Well, thanks for that, but unfortunately I can't get past step 1 cuz I don't have a small enough srewdriver! I'm afraid I'm going to strip the screws if I apply too much force. Should a standard eyeglass repair type screwdriver work? Or do I need something even smaller?

This unfortunately is a common problem for the DS. There can be a couple of causes to it. The first cause is a loose wi-fi module within the console itself, relatively easy to sort out. You can check my tip out on how to take apart a DS and then when the motherboard is exposed just make sure the wi-fi module is seated properly. It is located here -

The other problem could be as simple as the battery not making good contact with the terminals. Remove the battery and make sure that the pins that the battery connects to are not bent and make good contact.

The third most severe problem is that there is a problem with the motherboard. This unfortunately is terminal and the only way to solve it is to buy a new DS motherboard, usually available for around £40 on ebay. Hopefully the previous things will fix it.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

For the tri-wing screws you may need something smaller but really they should only be opened with a tri-wing screwdriver. If you can wait, you can pick them up very cheaply off of ebay. I would do this just to be sure you dont muck the heads up on the screws. As for the phillips screws, they are easily removed with a small phillips screwdriver.

    Hope this helps

The power light on my DS Lite keeps blinking even when its green, and I swear I have never seen that happen before, what does it mean??

A blinking green light usually indicated that your connected to a wifi connection or a ds to ds link.

What does it mean if a ds lite red light doesnt show up when you are playing it? The green light is on and plays fine but then when battery gets low the green light goes off and stays off but the red light...

This is OK the Red LED Has just gone out... simply just keep an eye on time if you think that it might die soon plug it in... there is not much that you can do to fix it.

Ds lite flashes on but fuses are ok

One or both your screens have blown.

Try removing the motherboard from the screens and attach the battery the green light should turn on and stay on.

Now attach the lower screen and turn on. If the screen is ok the screen and green light will flash and then turn off. (if the screen doesn't flash the bottom screen is you're problem and will have to be replaced)

If this happens the problem is then you're top screen which you will have to replace.

Ds lite charging problem

See if you can move it to a different outlet. There could be another solution. If you have 2 Ds's make sure that they're not on the same outlet. If one of the plugs is upside down, it sometimes won't work. See if these ideas will help... and by the way, i don't know why you can't play it when it's charging.

Ds lite charging lite comes on but when i press power button nothing happens

Are you leaving the DS charge until the light comes off? Remember that there are two likes too, one for charging and one for power. If you're just charging for some random period of time (lets say... One hour) then your Battery isn't going to be fully charged. The best way to ensure that your DS Lite is charged is to leave it charge until the charge light turns off. You can play your DS Lite while you are charging (I do it all the time), but it just means that you're just running off of the outlet.

A good test is to charge it fully (until the charge light comes off), unplug the charger cord (Make sure it's secured tightly to your DS while charging), then play for a little bit, your light should be a normal color (green).

If you cannot even play by using the outlet, then you need to
find a charger cord that actually works (You may need to send in the charger for replacement). If the same thing happens with 2 different batteries (assuming that you have two official Nintendo batteries).

TIP: Also run your fingers across the Charger cord. You're going to get a slight friction burn from the rubber, but you're going to get all of the kinks out of the wire in the cord. My charger cord had a similar problem (did not charge all the way, only charged until I moved the DS) but when I ran my fingers across it (pinching) it worked again.

Also check the pins in both charger cords, charging will not work if one pin is missing, nor if any are bent.

Power problems with DS Lite

Really sounds like a dead battery. The DS will not work if the battery is bad even when it's plugged in. You get the quick flash of the power light and that's it.
