Ok. As per your statement your laptop is working perfectly , when you are connected your laptop with with the cable wire.So the network cable is OK. Reset button was hit but cannot log in with admin and motorola locked out and cannot get lap top to connect

It seems I didn't push the button long enough or I pushed it and then pulled the power cable. That got me into some weird condition where internet would work but was not able to login to the router.

The right way:
- Press and hold the reset button until the devices lights start to shutoff
- Wait
- Login with the defaults: admin/Motorola

Is the Motorola SBG900 cable modem gateway a router- that is will it enable file sharing between the computers that share the gateway (one wired, one wireless). If so how is this set up?

you should be able to set up a home network you will have to enable file sharing, if you run through the network setup wizzard in the control pannel it should be fairly straightforward

Cannot connect 2 computers to Motorola SBG900 wireless cablemodem

mac and pc security keys are not interchangable. I suggest not using a a key for both units. You can reset the router by unplugging it for 1 minute. or you gain access to the router through the web address. 192.168.1.1 Type this into the address bar to gain access to the router.

Motorola SBG900 WEP password problem - MAC OS X

  1. Try the ethernet cable, but also configure it manually by setting the gateway as 192.168.0.1 and the IP to 192.168.0.2
  2. Then enter normally and reconfigure it.
Optionally, try holding the reset button for 20s and access through wireless if you want.

Downloading Problem with Motorola SBG900 Wireless Cable Modem Gateway

Sounds like your laptop is hit with spyware and or viruses. Try starting it in safe mode (F8) and seeing if you still have this problem. If it works in safe mode go to grisoft.com and download the antimalware free trial. Restart in normal mode and install and run the trial version.
