I did it by repeatedly turning on the camera, getting the lens error screen and then shutting it down by pulling out the battery. I did it numerous times over the span of a week and it eventually came around.

Hi, Unfortunately with the damage that was done to it it's beyond repair as repairs would cost more then a new camera. I'd suggest buying her a new camera and apologizing a lot.

The following web blog talks about lens error problems, and what you can try to get the camera working again:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
Sometimes, when a lens gets bumped or dropped and hit, the gears inside the assemby can jam, strip, or break. The blog discusses what you can try to get the camera working again, but if nothing works, the camera will have to be serviced. You can take it in to a local camera repair shop, or contact Kodac support:
http://support.en.kodak.com/
Get an estimate before having it repaired, since the cost of repair can often justify buying a new one.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

I dropped my camera while it was on and the lens was extended. And I dropped it right on the lens. And now when I turn the camra off, the lens does not go back inside the camera. Everything else is fine,...

if the cams making grinding or crunching noise the lens housing gears are broke. repair usually not very economical. about 80% the cost of cam when you bought it.

If you don't know already, then I wouldn't try repairing it. Consider selling it on ebay to a repairman who fixes and resells them. Then buy a good on from a repairman or someone upgrading, for a good price.

Doesn't sound like an amateur's repair to me. :)

Lens error on SD1000 Canon but opened lens and made it worse!

Lens error means that either it was dropped on the lens or the lens just failed. You could be looking at a $90-$120 repair

Lens problem

Dear Customer,
When you say the lens barrel is bent, do you mean that the camera won't turn on ?, or the lens barrel is just bent and it looks outlandish. However if it's not turning on follow these steps:

1) Try to gently re-position the barrel, and make it more stortionate.

2) try to recharge ( or get new batteries ), and see if the lens will withdraw.

Unfornately, when you drop a camera, many warranties are voided, and you have to pay to have it fixed, but i doubt it would be that much money to fix.

Please rate this solution.. Thank You..

Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
