Question about Fedders A&B Chassis A1A07W2B Air Conditioner

1 Answer

When turned on, the unit sounds like it will start then turns off within a minute.

A Fedders Model A6Y18F7A-L 2 years old now has the same issue as last year. Turn the unit on, motor kicks on for about 1 minute with no air blowing out. After 30 - 60 seconds it kicks off. 1st time on for the season, it has been off for about 6 or 7 months. Only used for 3 months the first season. Had to have the blower replaced after the 1st season. Now the unit is doing the same thing. Is there some kind of a recall or issue with this type of air conditioner... Thanks for any help !!

The Fedders window unit A/C is making chirpy bird noises when it is first turned on for about 20 min. or so. What is the cause?

Usually a dry bearing somewhere. You need to fix it. If it is in the compressor rather than the fan, it is probably uneconomical to repair. It is better if the chirping STOPS after 20 minutes rather than STARTING after 20 minutes. Heat and use is fixing the problem for you.

Looking for model number on older Fedders air conditioner

There will be a tag on it externally and it is probably hard to read due to weather and grass clippings. If its a really old one, the tags were aluminum with the info stamped in them. If it was made in the mid 80's or later, it was probably a clear plastic tag that has faded and lost its ink over the years or is completely gone due to UV light deterioration.

Open the electrical cover, sometimes the manufactures printed model and serial numbers on the actual wiring diagrams. As a last resort, write the numbers down that are located on top of the compressor dome. Also note the brand of the compressor. Call a local HVAC shop and ask them the capacity of the compressor which is coded within the numbers on the dome. For instance a Tecumseh AH5540E is a 40,000 btu compressor that can be used in a 3 or 3 1/2 ton a/c. It'll get you in the ball park.

If you are looking for the Feddars model number so you can order parts, don't bother because those old units all had reasonably generic parts that ANY supply house has on hand. Double pole contactor, 30, 35 or 40 mfd run capacitor. 250 mfd start capacitor. 1075 rpm condesor fan motor.....ALL normal in stock items. Even the replacement compressors were generic on most of the old units and compressor brands could be interchanged with a few piping modifications.

Model a6q10f2a beeps 2 times when plugged in, and

Pull the unit from the wall and it`s shell, check the fan to see if it is turning ok by hand,if there is any restriction,it will blow the control board, the circuit board behind the controls, clean the unit while you have it out,if the fan is stiff, and does not turn, this could be the problem, and if so,the circuit board is most likely shot. Also, the circuit board is most likely shot anyway, even if the fan is fine, there is a lot of problems with fedders and other brands, and the circuit boards, they dont last too long.

Unit Turns Off

Have you checked the breaker in the breaker box to see if it's tripped? Also check the amp rating on the air conditioner and the amp rating on the breaker the unit is plugged into, the breaker may be weak or not a high enough amps or rating for the unit it's trying to power.

Fedders Y Chassis Quit Running

Bummer. I bought an AEY08F2G that put out no warm air and very little cool air. Fedders filed chapter 11 in August. They do not honor warranties now, and apparently offer no repair service. I was fortunate that I bought mine from Venting Direct, and the unit was still within the 60 defective return period. They told me that Fedders units are junk. They provided full credit for the unit (plus shipping costs) without requiring that the unit be returned to them. My advice is to toss it. Live and learn.

Shut off within minutes after turning on

HELLO ... THERE IS A THERMOSTAT SENSING BULB THAT MAYBE OUT OF PLACE OR TOUCHING THE COIL. ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR CURTAINS ARE CLEAR FROM YOUR UNIT BY AT LEAST 3". IF YOU CAN SEE THE REMOTE SENSING BULB OR ALUMINUM LINE, WARM IT UP WITH YOUR HAND AND SEE IF YOUR UNIT CONTINUES TO CYCLE OFF. IF IT DOES CHANCES ARE YOUR THERMOSTAT IS BAD. IT IS NOT EXPENSIXE ... UNDER $30.
